Good start but i think that if you move the zone around the eyes a bit to the back it will look much more good. And yes the jaw is very strange maybe you should move it to to the back
he looks too friendly. try to make evil eyes.
funnydoodle
12-22-2002, 06:33 AM
atmos fear: thanx for that comment.... i was thinking of doing dat as well, maybe bigger eyes helps make it look better too.....
cgfreak: yeah......
jeb: yeap.... atm he looks vulnerable lol.... gonna lower his eyelids to create an evil expression!

how original........

12-22-2002, 10:14 AM
well i knew someone is gonna put that up but really, i wasn't trying to remake something that has been made by someone else... i'm trying to create a new creature, a hybrid, if u read my title well, orcs have to look same in a way. otherwise, u must be saying that leigh is not original also cos it's from LOTR. actually my reference is this:
funnydoodle
12-22-2002, 10:58 AM
played with some textures and colours...... i'm trying to go fo realistic..... comments?
heh a donīt see any textures on your model.........can you specify where they are?:annoyed: so try to look for some photoreal textures and apply it....
funnydoodle
12-22-2002, 02:16 PM
lol... i just textured the rings and eyeball....... still not satisfied with eyes yet,...... anyway, i finished the helmet....... tell me whatcha think!
funnydoodle
12-22-2002, 03:57 PM
oh no replies yet? it's ok... i've just textured the helmet.... gonna add more details to the helmet while i wait for comments..... thanx....
funnydoodle
12-22-2002, 07:26 PM
:hmm: still no comments? anyway, i started texturing the head and i'm really driven mad .....grr.... i really need helpful tips from u guys out there...... pls let me know if there's anything wrong or could be improved.... right now it's single planar textured..... grr... i suck in texturing...
(B-HOLM)
12-22-2002, 11:39 PM
I think you kinda ruined the whole head with adding that purple texture thing to it...looks very cheap....get something more suitable for it and add some bump mapping :)
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 12:27 AM
yeah you r right..... i'm trying to get the colours right at the moment..... not sure if i should leave the nose area red.... can anyone tell me bout that? and uhm... what else,..... oh yeah...... i'm trying to get the skin to look as much the same as the one in my reference (previous post)..... i want that type of material..... can anyone give some advises pls? thanx.... how's the helmet btw, nobody commented on it.
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 01:51 AM
agree..... i'm going to add some scratches and stains on the helmet.... will also distort a lil as if it's been hit by arrows and other weapons..... thanx!
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 02:01 AM
hair is definitely in play if it's going to look realistic but it's going to be the last thing i put in..... hehe might as well start modelling the inside of the mouth together with the tongue..... it's obvious that it's empty inside...lol... im working on eyes too..... found some great tutorials on how to create realistic 3d eyes..... stay tuned!
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 02:27 AM
whoah... looks great.... i might wanna get a darker blue for the helmet but i get the idea..... cool.... the eye...lol.... that's A LOT of yellow...... yeah i'll try to create some variations of colour for the eyes...... orange-yellow would be great too!
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 02:40 AM
now he looks like gremlins lol..... too colourful perhaps? i think too much colour would suggest a happy mood instead of evil.... dark colours would be a great choice i think..... oh yeah.... here's the eye.... is this what u had in mind?
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 02:47 AM
yeah something like dat.... anyway it's good to have contrasting colours between the helmet and the head...... yeah how could i forget the veins lol
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 03:02 AM
maybe i'll animate him..... if he's animatable.... so far i've not been tought on how to model heads for animatable facial expressions but if the model here shows the green light, yeah... i'll animate him..... just to get feets wet...... and yeah... a lil update on the eyes....
funnydoodle
12-23-2002, 03:18 AM
thanx! i replaced the eye in photoshop here.... just to get a look at how it's gonna be..... hehe.....

The problem is, an ORC is a hybrid between a human, an elf, and an orc/goblin.
the skins texture is way too blurry, and appears to have no bump mapping
hmm yeah the model is nice, but the texturing is a said earlier a little blurry and strange.

ya orcs are torcherd elves, and orcraft are human orcs...
Capel
12-23-2002, 06:43 PM
hey, if you're going for realistic, i'd work on the mouth area. It's needs a lot more detail. Keep it up.

I also noticed your skin is very colourful and looks alot like my NS map (blue and red).

12-23-2002, 09:16 PM
i dont like that other guy's orc colors, i'd keep them darker
i thought that on the weapon, that spike at the end pointed out the other way... but maybe im wrong
its getting better keep workin

ok - time for opinionations :D First - biologically speaking - with those teeth like that, the poor creature would die - The jaws aren't large enough to encompass the bite size needed to make a good kill, unless the creature were a scavenger, in which case anything goes - but no molars??? Anyway - this is way late in the creation for that - just maybe something for next time - looking at the pics of the moria orcs - they were probably always in such a bad mood because of crappy dental hygiene and not enough orajel to go around.
On the helmet - it looks a little to far down on the skull. No padding? Might want to think about that - medevial warriors would stuff their helms with padding or even straw - check with your local SCA (sca.org) chapter to find someone with a helm that is actually used in combat and notice the amounts of padding that is put into them. Just some thoughts.........

ah..... it's always great to see comments whenever u return to ur thread!
reaper 21x & Bitmap: then make it another breed of Orc..... I thought of naming it "Nyama Hai"..... now it could be the Urk Hai's long lost cousin. lol
Capel: yeah obviously..... now it only has the lower lip... but i am planning to add another mesh that would act as it's nose and upper lip.... sort of a translucent skin...... do u think it'll be ok?
Bitmap: the colourful skin was just a test of colour done by CgFreak.
Riven: yeap dark colours like i said earlier.... uhm.... the weapon looks exactly as it is now... i've got my references... a lot which come from the book "the art of fellowship of the rings"... get it if u haven't already...thanx anyway!
Pixakiller: thanx for ur well comment there.... i'll try to modify the model abit to make it right.... about the helmet, yeah.. i agree with that..... thanx! and this means i'm still lack of research... hehe..... *digging for more*

12-24-2002, 07:13 AM
i tweaked the textures on the weapon a lil..... and came up with this....please tell me if it's any better ok? thanx

funnydoodle
12-24-2002, 06:41 PM

12-25-2002, 07:50 AM
gosh..... has everyone stop entertaining evil models on christmas day? lol.....
funnydoodle
12-25-2002, 08:17 AM
i was actually thinking of that too, maybe his eyes should close more cause i think it's not corresponding to the forehead to create the mean look..... watcha think?
funnydoodle
12-25-2002, 11:29 AM
i think i m the only one working on my own model on christmas day... lol..... anyway, i am quite happy with the textures now but still have more to add on the scalp area..... and as usual, comments?
funnydoodle
12-25-2002, 11:33 AM
oops i forgot to attach the image.... hehe..... here ya go
it's all good!
textures are very nice (coming from a guy who can add two colors together in photoshop and be proud of it..), but I think you should move the teeth into the mouth. Right now they are sort of coming out of the lips?
funnydoodle
12-25-2002, 06:01 PM
thanx mate! yeah perhaps i should edit the mouth part abit.... anyway, here's an update of the model with his helmet on.... the teeth are textured but not finished yet.... just testing with the colours...... comments?
funnydoodle
12-25-2002, 06:58 PM
yo nice to hear from u again! the zombie look is exactly what i want in him, thats part of the human hybrid since the proportion is based on the human skull.... and yeah..... the plastic look..... do u think it's something to do with my specualr map? cos i'm not sure on how to fix this.... and oh yeah,,, the teeth, and details on the head are coming soon,.... i just wanna get a clean model done first...... cos ltr i might wanna create an army with different facial details.... great suggestions though! thanx!
funnydoodle
12-25-2002, 07:57 PM
LOL! It's predictable ain't it? Nah..... Actually me and my friends have this idea about a different story called "Lord Of The Ear Rings". We've got a lot of concept arts but this is just a build from scratch model which i thought of... who knows, he could be one of the villains.... then only i'm gonna bullshit some story to fit him in..... lol......
thanx for liking my textures..... i'll continue to improve them
funnydoodle
12-26-2002, 03:44 AM
i think the eyes are at it's best now..... "the eye is the keeper of the soul"...... so i hope the eyes have given my character life.... the teeth are coming together as well..... tell me watcha think! like it? dislike? bring it!

uhm i didn't quite get that... is that supposed to be a compliment or otherwise?

12-27-2002, 07:30 PM
ok i didn't burn back the file i m working on(from college) so i played with the previous files i have in my computer and decided to mess the head with some poses..... i think this pose is quite evil and scary.... tell me what u think...... cheers.....
From looking over the posts from begining up to the present, it's come along way! Looking much better now than then hehe. Textures looking great an complimenting the model nicely. I really dig the open mouth yelling/screaming pose above, though might wanna build the inside of the mouth a lil better an texture it (my monitor sucks here at work so I can't tell 100% if you'd done that yet or not hehe)
Had to chuckle a bit when I noticed you gave one of his ears an industrial piercing haha :p I hadn't caught that at first glance. Keep it up!

Hey there! THanx a lot! Yeah i MUST model the inside of the mouth since it's going to be visible when the jaws open up.... right now it's nothing iniside..... u just see the back of the head in the mouth now lol...... just an idea, should i make a second set of teeth in the mouth(something like giger aliens) or make the throat like a human's? just a suggestion i might want u guys to give an opinion.... thanx
funnydoodle
12-28-2002, 03:16 AM
hmm..... u like the eyes? there's no material to the eyes now.... i just applied a lil reflection there cos the original file with the correct eyes is not in my pc now..... :hmm: i'll have to wait till monday when the college reopens. yeah i thought off making snake eyes too..... i'll make another texture for that and see if it's any better...... thanx dude for keeping watch till now!

I dunno... one thing is the inside of the mouth should be gross looking. As far as another row of teeth? eh it miiiiiiiiiiiiight work I suppose. You might beable to jus do a nasty looking tonge... eithe rsomewhat forked or just pointy like hehe. :P

why? simply because the xsi version in my college is latter than mine so even if i bring the file back, my xsi couldn't open it.... i hate this too cause it delays me...... sigh what can i do? lol.... we'll all have to wait.... i can work on the inside of the mouth now though.... i'll start on it tomoro since i'm going to a rave party tonite.
and yeah..... awesome tongue..... exactly the one i had in mind.... thanx for the visualization!

yeah...... textures will handle the detail of the throat and all.... going to refine a bit of the shape and start texturing ASAP...

doctor: alright say "ah" and open up your mouth so that everyone can see the textures.
orc: aaaaah...
leigh
01-01-2003, 06:50 PM
Hehehe that is seriously grim!! :D
I think I have to say though, that this character doesn't really have characteristics of humans or elves though... he is mostly just good old ugly orc to me... However, I may have overlooked some of the details :)
There is something about his mouth that lacks substance. Perhaps you need to add more fleshy details to the inside of his mouth, because at the moment it is really kinda looking like nothing more than a polygonal cavern
However, I do like the pose, it's just a matter of fleshing the whole thing out a bit more :)
The teeth could do with some variation. At the moment they look like they are all the same. Make some ugly revolting jagged ones ;)
Also maybe add some gums...
The texturing looks pretty interesting, although in an unusual styilsed way. He looks kinda metallic - is that your intention? I do think it looks cool, but if you are wanting a fleshy skin look, you will need to pay some more attention to your textures.
It would be nice to see an update on the body that you started. What you have done so far looks okay, although you need to work on your form a little more. Also, you might want to consider changing his stance somewhat - the orcs in LOTR are very bent, they do not stand up straight at all. Although, sometimes it is easier to model something straight up, and then just rig it so that it is bent over. I guess it's up to you :)

Oh another thing, those eyes are seriously freaky :surprised
They are maybe a bit too square - perhaps you could make them a little rounder? Also, add some nice eyeballs, those empty white sockets are freaking me out!
Oh, and one more thing - I noticed someone earlier in the thread ragging you about how making an orc is unoriginal. Never mind that! There are loads of people making orcs on this forum, and they are all cool in their own ways! Orcs are fun to make, and I'm really enjoying seeing all the different creatures showing up on this forum!! Have fun!!! :D
