View Full Version : Lightwave 7 crashing
Schivosa2 12-21-2002, 06:55 AM When I run Lightwave, it crashes instantly and reboots my computer. I am using Win 2000. Anyone else ever had this trouble?

Lightwave 7.5 is the latest.

Maybe just try re-installing it.
Do the usual back-up etc first.

Should work fine. Try reinstalling and upgrade to 7.5.
This is how I installed mine :
- Install LW 7.
- Install LW 7.5 in a different directoty (ex C:\LightWave_3D_7.5)
Purpose now is to set a specific directory for config files. Default location is :
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Configs
You have to change that.
- Makedir C:\LightWave_3D_7.5\Configs
- Create shortcuts for Lightwave.exe (Layout) and modeler.exe
- Edit shortcuts properties and copy this to the target field:
C:\LightWave_3D_7.5\Programs\Lightwav.exe -cC:\LightWave_3D_7.5\Configs
and for Modeler:
C:\LightWave_3D_7.5\Programs\Modeler.exe -cC:\LightWave_3D_7.5\Configs
Launch both app using the shortcuts.

Still not working. I'm thinking it might be my video card. Its a Voodoo 5. I'm on my old computer through the holidays.
Schivosa,
You should run Lightwav.exe or Modeler.exe on the command line to see if there are any error message displayed on the command console.
I don't think there are any Lightwave logs, but you can also check for the system logs to see if there are any errors at about the date/time that you run Lightwave.

I would lean in the direction of it being a video card problem. Try installing updated video drivers.
I've *never* had that type of stability issue with LW except in the case of video card related problem. You also might go into the VC's settings and turn off everything you can. I had a configuration on my card once that'd cause a BSOD. Turns out I played with one too many of the fancy features. :thumbsdow
