Ok this is a character I've been working on in my spare time...
modelling is about 90% complete..I want to add a few more details and some small tweaks....
Its for my portfolio, I need a 3d job in a bad way.. :hmm:
so I'm trying to develop a fresh portfolio from scratch...this just happens to be the one peice that is farthest along...
info: this piece was done in max5; poly extrude and build faces.
approximately 3500 faces (at this stage)
obviously not rigged or textured yet..but soon.
like I said I am REALLY looking for a job, so if anyone out there has any C&C I 'll sure take it...
thank you ..i hope you like...

If you want a job in games, the best thing you can do is work on a modification for an existing game. It's what I did and now I'm working for one of the biggest developers in the UK. The work turnover is usually quick so you'll build up your portfolio in know time. I learnt so much working in a MOD with other inspiring artists and hanging around elite forums like this one and www.Polycount.com
Oh, and you model looks pretty sweet, one critic would be to thin down her chin and knock the length of it back. It'll help make her look more feminine.

The hands seem a litte small to me, too. If it's not the perspective's fault, maybe you want have a look on it. Oh and the breasts seem not to be affected by gravity ;) Otherwise solid work, I'm expecting it to look good when textured :)

thank you guys.....I really appreciate the feedback....
Louis J. Browne : I agree about the face...working on it as I type...:)
Wanzai and SecseanZ : working on those hands..I already remodelled them a couple times, I 'll work on them some more.:)
also I'll recheck the torso and breasts..
Thanks again for comments..

here are some recent updates...I have layed out the mapping coordinates, but still have a little stretching so I need to adjust that.....you can my attempt with textures on that right arm chainmail sleeve..
I did adjust the face and the torso and the hands as mentioned earlier, though it may be hard to tell from this size pic....
and I am deep into the character RIG, which is a new experience for me.....just need to wire the arms, hands and head and I'll be done....spine and legs work great:)(hurray for small victories)
so back to painting textures after that.....
just posting these to keep myself motivated..:)

This certainly depends on the game and the platform, but the rig may have too many bones - you usually won't need more than 3 spine links. Sorry to say that since it's one of the things working for you  How many are there, anway? Interested in seeing the UV sheet to, if you feel like to share it :)

thanks for the tip wanzai...rigging certainly isnt my specialty, and I didnt know that about 3 bones in the spine. there are 5 spine bones in this one.(if thats what your asking)
but since its just a portfolio piece and not actually going into a game I guess it doesnt matter too much :hmm: . I'm not realy trying to be a "jack of all trades" but I am trying to learn /show the entire process from concept to animation...I'm mainly a modeller and concept designer, I think its boring to just send employers the neutral model pose. plus I think I want to do some animations for fun, so I gotta learn the process a lil better.
what you might also be seeing are the bone fins, the parts sticking out from the bones...this is a feature in max that I can easily turn off, they expand the bone objects envelope and give you a visual cue as to which way the bone is rotating....
thanks for the input....is there a place I can find info about rigging for games?
