I was just wondering why Alias doesn't make wireframe renderables... and bones too..

I mean, it's possible at the moment, but it's such a pain in the ass... you need plugins, or special ways to do things.. when it would be so much easier to select the object and in the attributes tell it to render wireframe.

I can't believe it would be that difficult that Alias can't incorporate that into the program itself.

Oh well..

I agree with you I don't understand too!

Sometime I thinks they don't add some options to thir soft so as to don't kill some customer's projects...........

Let's join forces and write the people at A|W a short feature request for upcoming Maya versions :)

I'm sure 1 person can make a difference, but 10 is even better ;)

I definally agree. A wire frame shader or wire render option should come standard... and should of come with Maya since 1.0.

My guess on the reason why would be because you usually don't need this feature for any production work, just for creating demo reels and showing off your work. A/w usually aims features toward people getting the work done, not getting a job.

I agree with beaker. Maya is an High-end software, not a simple app to resolve simple user pb.

i think that is what makes Maya so successful - being able to do things the way you want and need it - and not for having "push a single button" solutions which tend to be very limited and inflexible

but come on :surprised just a simple wireframe checkbox similar to 3dsmax... just shove it in the render attributes of an object.. next to cast shadows/recieve shadows.

If people need to do complex wireframe shading and stuff then thats fine, let em.. but when you just need to do a quick overlay, a checkbox will fit perfectly.

"Maya is an High-end software, not a simple app to resolve simple user pb."

So high-end programs are not allowed to have simple things?

You could always use the hardware render buffer...

Exactly... High end apps can invariably do simple things. Maya will tend to give you everything you want, just requires a bit of lateral thinking.

If it really doesn't do what you want, then (with rendering) that's what the API is there for.
