“Baggy’s Scrapbook” is the story of my cat. I created a rough
3D model of him back in 2002. I had some skit ideas at that time,
but not an overall story idea. I finally decided to make a collection
of his weird little quirks and thought about maybe presenting them in
a photo album type of thing, in this fashion, every photo in the book
would represent a different episode and that’s how each little story
would begin. In early 2005, I did a sketch of Baggy standing on the
toilet drinking, and that is what sparked this episode “Eau de’ Toilet”.
I pitched the idea to my friend Craig Bowman, and he was completely into it,
so I started remodeling Baggy and when I finalized the model, I passed him
over to Craig to rig while I worked on the bathroom set and story sketches,
finally, both of us were animating little Baggy. This is the result of our
work and I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.

It was a great pleasure to work with MDuhatschek and it has certainly been entertaining and fun to work on this project. Lots of hard work went into making it happen but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Look forward to more fun in the future....
I hope everyone enjoys this and keep an eye out for more...... more more more...... meow!

looks good you guys, very nice visuals. I'd maybe have another choice for download besides divx, try wmv or a nice sorenson'd mov. also definitly more cat noises.. find a stray cat bring it into a booth and swing it around for a bit. That'll give you some awesome noises.
Great work you two.
bdicks.

Hey guys, great stuff. Really love some of those expressions and some fun poses in their too. I'd agree with maddoc on the DivX. Might shy some people away and I'd say get as many people to gander at it as you can.
You guys planning on posting some pre-pro wires? Maybe for the next episode or something you could get a production log going?
Oh well thumbs up from me. Cool little idea.

Looked nice, and very funny! reminds me of my parents cat.
I woulda expceted a Cat yelp (like when you accidently step on his tail) when his tail got caught at the end. But without intentionally hurting a cat it could be hard to get that .wav.
But very good Work! I enjoyed it.

Nice job guys. Love the animation ,especially the facial stuff. Could understand what the cat was feeling or going through by just reading his eyes. Nice model , very original. Also great lighting and texturing, it gave the clip a nice cartoony yet realistic feeling. The whole piece looks very solid and complete. Keep it up guys and hope to see more from Baggy soon.

Pretty good little animation. Nice stylistic character. I think you could have sold the idea of the cat falling in the toilet even more by having him look wet when he came out of the toilet after falling in. He still looked bone dry.
If you could have made his hair droop more, or you could have had a few drops of water come out when he fell in and running down his fur when he popped out again. Also, increasing the specularity on his fur coat would have helped make it look wet.
I hope to see more of your cats adventures.

Thanks for the responses so far.... We promise that there were no animals harmed in the making of this little diddy.... although Mike says that Baggy has come close a few times to extinquishing another one of his nine lives.... There will be more episodes to come... Super top secret stuff Ha ha haaaa... As to when, well we are always talking about ideas and a few boards are being conceptualized as I type..... off to the drawing board..... Purrrrrr

Cat Yelps are hard to get with out holding on to a cat for too long... Just can't bring myself to do anything that a cat wouldn't like... they always seem to come give the love.... I'll try... I'll try.... Anyone with some cat sounds they would like to donate would be great... Just drop me a PM!.....

Hi Pixelchick,
There is definately more to follow, we have several ideas getting tossed around and I think we're getting close to settling on the story line. There is a hint at the story I can give you,...
it will probably be a rather introspective Baggy.

I would add that he could very well have a retrospective experience as well.... Oh boy is this going to be fun..... I can't wait to flesh this one out into the open.....
Have a great day and stay tuned!

Hey guys, nice work. I thought I had heard about this animation from other employees. There are a few things I think need some attention when you do the next episodes. The lighting needs more work to soften out shadows and provide more occlusion fill. I think a lot of the camera translations are a bit too linear in movement as well. The cat has really nice character, so it'll be intresting to see what happens to him in future episodes.

Hey thanks for your thoughts. Each Episode will be treated differently based of the stories needs. We treated this first episode as a proof of concept. Turned out pretty good I think. I can say the next episode will have a few surprises for both Baggy and Mike and I... he he... I've been working on a good camera rig that I think will be very handy. It will be used on the next scene. I wrote out a tutorial and its 26 pages so far... wow... need to slim that one down...at last....on with the show....!
Thanks again.... Stayed Tuned...!

News Flash, I have added a Quicktime movie of this animation now, and it's only 10 MB, that should help it load faster. It's at http://www.baggysscrapbook.com
Take care,
