do all bones need to have an ending nub bone?
apart from IK chains, if one already has sized up their skeleton and are not including the nub bones within the skin modifier, why would one keep them around ? If one had to resize a bone down the line, they could simply add end bone.

Also, is it better to specify None for Stretch/Squash options if the bone is not going to be stretched/squashed ? I think the default in 3dsmax is Stretch.

Hi Ryan,

Yes you're right you don't need the nub bone unless you want to keep them for doing stretchy bones or as a convenience for resizing or driving an expression later. As for stretching again you're right - it won't make a difference unless you mess with either the position or scale controllers of the bones which doesn't happen unless you tell it to.
