View Full Version : modo workflow
mattaudio 03-22-2006, 04:21 PM Hi,
I'm starting to evaluate modo and i don't understand how to ameliorate my workflow.
For example i've got 3 vertices to move separately:
In maya:
Select move tool,select 1st vertex,move,select 2nd vertex,move,select last vertex,move.
In modo:
Select 1st vertex,select move tool,move,drop move tool,select 2nd vertex,select move tool,move,drop move tool,select last vertex,select move tool,move.
Is there any way to do the same operations in modo faster?

Hi,
Is there any way to do the same operations in modo faster?
Yes , using the element move tool (located under the deform tab) :)

Thanks to you, i've just increased my productivity by 100%
thanks a lot :)
You can also use sticky keys to temporarily toggle the transform tool off for as long as you hold down the key. For instance, select vert1, activate move tool (w), move vert, hold down move tool key (w) select vert 2, let go of (w) and move vert 2. Repeat for vert 3. Not as fast as Element move when doing translations, but for scale and rotate it makes more sense - or when working with multiple selections.

I'm still used to the fact that when I have selected vertices or faces, with move tool active (in Maya) I just click outside the model, and it gets deselected...
I've tried XSI and Modo, and there you have to drop the tool, which I can understand the advantages of it, but in XSI luckily it is configurable. You can setup it up like Maya. If you don't like dropping tool you can set if off.
Sticky keys are nice too but I don't want to press W all the time on and off.
So plz Luxology build in this option. :)

modo 201 will provide this functionality. The Luxology team has called it "Select Through",
allowing you to make and release selections with the current tool active. :)
Looking forward to it myself!
Yep there's a video they released that shows it in action too.
