I know it's a wip and a good one at that, but the aliens head is bigger in the back...tho youmight be going for a stylized look, not really sure.
The back of the head is really big tho. Great work, looking forward to updates!
kingMob is right .....the backhead of alien is longer....

I likes, Cant go wrong using HR. Giger for inspiration. You should give him a santa hat, being christmass and all :)

well if its giger it needs to be thiner and more feminine, the lips on his aliens looks like they were taken off a girl in some pics. I'm a giger freak, got almsot all h is books.
I still think this alien is gonna turn out great, even if he has a small head.
cyroz2000
12-23-2002, 09:50 AM
Thx guys, you're right about the backhead, it should be longer, but I like it the way it is now, I don't pretend to make THE real HR Giger's Alien, but I'll try not to change it a lot.
As you can see it's more close to the Giger's one than the pseudo alien creatures that you can see in the Cameron's ALIENS version, but I think it will be my version.
By the way, everyone talk about texture but I really don"t know how to do it, so if someone is interested in trying something, just PM me...

 looks good man, i like the bigger head for sure...but I used to eat sleep and breathe alien...be it giger or the darkhorse comics.
The cool ting about aliens is they always look a little dfferent depnding what they popped out of, so maybe he popped out of something with a small head. hehe.
Anyways good work, what software you runnin?

Thx KingMob, Alien is a hared thing to deal with cause there are so many fans...
I don't pretend to make it really accurate so...
BTW, I use Lwave.
And here is another update, adding details after subdividing the meshe (sorry for the low quality 40ko limit):

looking great man. Love the factyou took the time to model the giger skull structure, thats great.
keep the updates coming!
Any alien fan who isn't used to deviation from the origianl design is not an alien fan, they change in every drawing by giger, cameron, and every movie.
Just make it scary :buttrock:

What's the deal with Lightwave? Doesn't anyone use Maya??? No?? Why?? It's really fun. Honestly.
And yeah, the alien head is bigger on the back because mine is that way. I would definately know because my mother was an alien and her head is way bigger in the back. Its more sexy that way.
Keep up the work. More updates soon please.

Damn right, my favorite artist.
And that said, the head is way to small, you need to extend the cranium farther back, and the bottom jaw has too much of a bulging chin sticking out.

ive been waiting to see when someone would model the A L I E N, and now i have seen it. The cranium also needs to be smoother, there seems to be a dip in the middle, cant wait to see if you come up with the texture which is the most convincing aspect.

Question: how come you're building the cranium? Are you intending to make him semi-transparent?
Also, how come he has eye sockets? According to it's anatomy, those wouldn't be necessary

Hey CarlCampbell,
the anatomy of the alien depends of its host, and the head, if you look at it, IS semi transparent (in ALIEN not ALIEN-S), so it's normal to model the cranium, here is some pic of the making of the creature for the first movie:
dude this is getting so grosse its great! need more updates!!! :)
looking great tho, know if anyone modelled the giger stand for the band korn yet??

Coooooool! Of course, if the facehugger incubates a human... they'd have a human skull! How come not in Aliens then?
I don't remember it being transparent in Alien though simply because you hardly saw the thing for more than a few seconds :D
Btw, theres something I've always wondered about, it sees out the front part of its "fore-head", right? I say this because of the original Alien games, because the Alien vision had that sort of shape. The fact of them not having visible eyes just adds to their scariness, I love 'em!

Carl,
In Aliens the creature is quite different for, AFAIK, two reasons:
-1- less weight, and more degree of liberty.
-2- HR Giger didn't work on this movie, the they had to redesign the creature...
"Coooooool! Of course, if the facehugger incubates a human... they'd have a human skull! How come not in Aliens then? "
Yes, that why the Alien warrior in ALIEN 3 is different as it comes out of a dog!

Fed up with the Alien, I started to model a face hugger, textures are just vertex paint and procedurals:

Nice hugger! Did you finish the alien? You should try to texture it and show us how well you've done. Good work.
P.S. I use Maya!!!!
CarlCampbell
01-09-2003, 02:07 PM
What does vertex paint do?
Carl
thats nice, how long did you work on the hugger for?

cyroz2000
01-09-2003, 02:27 PM
The hugger is about 2-3hrs of work.
CarlCampbell:
Vertxpaint allows you to add color weight to vertex and mix this with the standard color map.
CarlCampbell
01-09-2003, 02:57 PM
Yeah, I tried using it before. Looked visually ugly but I knew that wasn't its real purpose. I thought it was for assigning weight also. Would you mind giving an example please? Is it something like wherever you paint a certain colour, that part becomes transparent and blends another texture in that area?

Nice work, but this model has been made by too many ppl. Next time, try devoloping a character of your own. I can't draw, but i can sure find some images of stuff for refrence and come up with some creatures or alien like humans.

Carl Campbell:
I used vertex paint to make a color map, it adds colors to the mode, you can also assign weight to blend textures (bump, spec, color...).
You can have a look at the vertex color map on the Lightwave3D website:
Lightwave3d:vertex color map tutorial (http://www.lightwave3d.com/tutorials/surface/colormap/index.html)
Blackassheep:
Thx for posting. I made several models of my own, but what's the matter if I want to model a Giger's Alien. I like it as I like several other stuffs. I don't understand why, when you model an existing character, there is always sommeone to say "create your own, as if I was wasting my time...
I don't see that sort of comment when it concerns cars or other stuffs(LOTR...).
:p
Please understand me, I don't want to start a war, I just enjoy modelling this Alien, that's all!

From what I understand:
In Alien and Aliens, the aliens took form from humans, meaning they had Human Bone Structure.
Another thing to note is Alien 1 and 2 was the aliens where bio-mechanical (Yes, it's a fact)
Where in 3 the creature was not biomechanical. It also had 3 leg segments, instead of the 2 in Alien one and two. In alien 4, I'm pretty sure they did a mix of the two, resulting in a purely organic creature with the human bone structure.
NOTE: When I talk about bone structure, I mean human attributes. This is evident mainly through the legs.
Other cool things to note. The cartilege or flexible clear material used in the moth to form the cheeks were condomsand the Slime was a food additive. Cool stuff, eh?
I'm 99% sure that the pic Maximus shows is the Bio-Mechanical, as its got 2 legs, and the white lines appear to be hoses.
