I want to have a plane that has an image texture mapped onto it. use the knife tool to break the plane up into several jagged pieces. and animate the plane "exploding" into many different pieces. think window with an image on it being smashed.

every time i separate a set of verticies the texture map image gets resized. ive been searchin the net for many hours please help

thanks

Make your plane and do all of your cutting first. UV Map that cut mesh and make your material apply the picture via UV coordinates. That way, when it breaks apart, the picture will stay nicely stuck to the pieces.

Is there really no other way? in max this would be a snap, and imo it should be a snap in blender also....
Well in rare occasions it can disturb things in max, but generally speaking cutting doesn't affect the uv mapping.

It just seems so obvious to have it that it feels weird if it were not the case...

thanks harky I thought after watching the video tutorial on UV mapping that you would somehow be able to use it to achieve the affect i desire. Like freak said though i thought it would be easier. I think that you should be able to put multiple objects into a group and apply a texture map across all of them. What I really want is to load a different image all the time. So pulling it into gime and cutting it up is a pain. But it works and Id rather be using blender than 3ds or lightwave. Also i am sure you or someone has probably seen that python explosion script ( http://jmsoler.free.fr/didacticiel/blender/tutor/cpl_meshexplosion_en.htm ). In the script/blend file when the monkey explodes faces move position but are still a part of the same object. I tried putting a texture on it and it worked how i would have wanted it to. Does anybody know what they are doing with the script and if it can be done manually easily? I have a decent amount of programming experience and could probably figure it out if I was a little more familiar with blender or if i could read french which is what the code is commented with.

Thanks for all the input

Josh
