As of 20 minutes ago, all U.S. & Canadian Early Birder boxes are in the capable hands of UPS. The boxes include all manuals (incl Pyrocluster) as well as CD release 1.2 including C4D R8.012. If we had your email address on file, you should be receiving your tracking number from UPS.

Special thanks to driver Greg Kennedy, Chad H. and the rest of the tech guys, Jane and Julie in order processing. And thanks to all of you for your patience. Happy holidays, everyone.

- Rick -

Right on time (er, not)--I'm getting a message that my EB temporary registration is about to expire.

I noticed that too. After talking with Maxon I guess the shipping you paid for is how the EB was shipped. They are picking up the tab for the regular shipment and shipping everyone via UPS ground. I feel sorry for people on the east coast who paid for overnight, ground is gonna take a while this time of year. I'm glad I live close to Maxon. Too bad they didn't tell us all of this stuff when we took advantage of the early bird. Oh well, at least we are finally getting the software. :)

AdamT -- Oh, you were supposed to register your temporary serial numbers online to get the permanent ones. Just go to their website and they'll email you official serial numbers.

I don't think that's right. They charged something like $50 for Fedexing the EB which is an amount clearly based on the weight on the final release. People who paid for Fedex (not me, btw) should get a refund. Considering that the EB package probably weighed less than 6oz., $50 would be an outrageous shipping charge.

As far as applying for permanent serial numbers goes, I have 12 days left so I should hopefully receive my boxed set by then. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that the full product would arrive 3 months after I paid for it.

You won't get another serial number with the shipment. You have to activate the temp on you have on their website to get your permanent one. At least that was what I was told. Maybe Rick can confirm this for the Early Birders.

I think I remember hearing that, too. I'll do that.

3 Months AdamT! Well, wait ītill you hear this: I paid 4 months ago - havenīt seen anything yet (except EB) and I live in Germany! I couldīve picked it up myself - by foot - and it would still have been faster! Itīs insane - and I`m pretty annoyed about Maxon!!!!! They owe the whole community an excuse for this bummer!

I totally mean it with the best intentions when I say:

Maybe this thread isn't the best place to complain. I understand you guys feel ripped off, but it doesn't help the community as a whole when there's a thread where people bash on maxon...

Perhaps you should tell Maxon directly.

----I hope I didn't get on anyone's bad side....

Honestly I'm not all that miffed. Delays are more the rule than the exception when it comes to rollouts of major software revisions. We have the .pdf manuals and it's not like the final software is *that* different from the EB edition. Depending upon when you got your EB, it may be exactly the same.

Probably R8 will be the most sold C4D release ever...

Hi Adrian- I did tell Maxon! More than once, still that doesnīt change whatīs been pulled off here. The release of the early bird as an limited edition (500 copies worldwide it was claimed - Ha!) - add a couple of 000 to that number. Itīs all about money infusion to the company on the back of the customer. By itself itīs ok - every company does (and needs) that, but then not being able to deliver - letting customers wait for 4 month for handbooks and final version - thatīs totally not ok! I could - like thousands of other customers - have worked with that money for 4 month - not Maxon!!! Why should I keep quiet when obviously Maxon screwed up on this one? Or the Printshop or the CD manufacturer - someone did screw something up. Itīs a fact! Iīm annoyed about it today - after 4 months of waiting(Iīm never annoyed for long -so I will love them again tomorrow, for their products and their superb customer support), but I see no reason for not posting that I am annoyed - I think everybody can understand it - including the good folks at Maxon.

And na - didnīt get on my bad side at all - but we do have freedom of speech!

Depends on how you mean solid, if your talking alround capabilities and productivity, pretty close but XL 7 does have the record for most stable, of course that is compared to most of our experience which is using 7.3 not 7.0 so comparison may not be entirely fair. Perhaps when 7.1 comes out R8 will be equally stable.

Outside of that, Helping students with an assignment where they creat and animate a rube goldberg type machine, I soon realised that with Expresso in R8 even a non programmer could make a farr better and easier to animate machine. Hmm maybe a quick little project todo over the holidays onceI get settled into my new place.
