Yeah im rigging a puppet of mine just for pure animation. So i set the bones simply and i made IK handles for the legs and arms... so i smooth bind them, arm bone for arm ik handle and leg bone for leg ik handle...

And then i move the RIGHT ARM UP with the IK Handle and the RIGHT LEG just partly moves with it too...

also when i select the IK handle of the RIGHT ARM...... the RIGHT LEG also turns purple (in wireframe)

what must i do? heres a pic to make it more clear.. please dont say anything like get a tutorial.... :D And the joints are all connected only the body is in parts (not combined) (head torso leg1 leg2 arm1 arm2)

First take a deep breath:

1.You didnīt do anything wrong :)
2.You donīt need a tutorial, because Iīll tell you what went wrong.

Your arm bones area of influence extends to your legs. You could either detach your skin from your skeleton and reattach with different skinning settings or...

...Open the Component Editor and select the ""Smooth Skin" tab. Nothing there? Select your meshīs faulty vertices and hey presto, lots of stuff. On on side you have your vertices (vtx(1)...vtx(20000)) and on the other your joints (upper_arm, lower_Arm...). The number in the squares shows how much a joint affects a vertex. Now select the joint tab, which shouldnīt affect your vertices, shift+select the first number tab and enter "0".

Now you will be rolling on the floor, laughing with joy, as the faulty vertices should snap to your arm/leg, eh? :)

Two tools which you should look up on this matter: "Prune weights" and "Paint Weights". Both are quite useful for future projects, though the Component Editor way is the most precise, hehe!

Good luck and Groetjes from Duitsland
Chris

Take it easy man, Maya takes time to learn. Press +/- to adjust your pivot size. Iīd take a look into the quick reference chart from time to time, comes with the software. If you lost yours, then you can buy them for 50€ from Alias (They are worth the money, lots of little tricks and shortcuts, I wouldnīt know what to do without mine).

And yeah, I donīt need your boobs as a reward. My girlfriend has prettier ones, sorry... :D

hi there... Dunkelzahn you really helped me! I read your last post once more and I got it right (faultless) but now I have something I really dont know how to handle... I could take it as a challange and mess up but i want to spare me some time and just ask you on our beloved website.

How can I smooth bind the torso!?

when I choose the Torso-joint and smooth bind it to the torso-model (lol) I get this error

Error: Skin on joint29 was bound at a diffrent pose. Go to the bindPose to attach new skins.

I really dont know what to do... give me a solution.

ahm... every person may post here if he has an awnser :)

If I can terminate this error with a solution the skeleton and moves is all mine :)

PS: WHUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAK!!! KUCH!! KUCH AAAAAAAH!!! HAHAHA WHUHAHAHAHA!!! SHIT YEAH!!! AAAAAAHT!! KUCH!!! ARGH! F*** YEA!!!

Thatīs because you rotated/moved a joint after you bound the first skin. Either delete all Keyframes to revert your rig to your original state or do Skin->Go to Bind Pose. Simple as that!
