is it possible to modell like this in maya?
http://www.integrityware.com/tutorials/Max/AdvTutorials/Adv_Camera/Adv_Camera.html
The Tutorial is the reason i wanted to start using NURBS but all ive heard about maya nurbs for now was very disappointing. Even simple things like attaching a cylinder to a sphere and make the edges smooth seem to be a pain in the ass. at least even the maya teacher of my class couldnt realy explain me how to do it.

And if its not possible in Maya, can Rhino do it? Whenever i read about NURBS people said Rhino is the best.

I wouldnītīgo this way with this model as target.
I would go for polymodeling in Silo or Maya then if
I have to convert the poly to subdiv and then to nurbs.
Must be the easiest way.
But if you know Max powernurbs is one way to go.

I recommend you to check Silo out, great tool!

sub ds are nice but try to cut a hole with smooth edges wherever you want in a cylinder. its possible but not very accurate and requires a lot of tweaking.
