View Full Version : Editor Camera Zoom restricted
FusionDG 12-19-2002, 05:09 PM Hi all,
I tried finding info in the manual on this, but I can’t seem to find an answer.
I am working in one view port with the Editor Camera and I am restricted on how far I can zoom in. Is there a setting that I am missing, or should I work with a typical camera and just move it around?
I'm sure there's a glaring, obvious answer to this and I'll feel like an idiot after I hear the answer

I've had this problem myself. I don't know why it happens or the real way to fix it. It seems like changing the Editor Camera type from the default to something else, orthographic for example, and then changing it back to the default would sort of reset things and allow you to zoom in like you want to. Of course changing the camera type like that forces you to have to re-orient the camera back to view the area you were working on. It's not a great work-around but it's the only way I figured out how to do it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes that does seem like a bit of monkeying around. I sometimes do select some objects and then "Frame Selected Objects" to zoom in the Editor Camera which works. But I'd like to just zoom in.
I'm sure someone will chime in w/an answer. The workday is young :) [here anyways]
Thanks
Hi,
the effect occurs when you zoom instead of dolly (move) the camera. The zoom is limited. You can make this visible by creating a camera in the vieport and having a look at the settings.

Also, in r8, the zoom in/out icon of viewport (triangle mark) seems to cause truck (move camera back and forth), while the icon in r7 means real zoom (focal length changes). This is true for wheel of the mouse, too. Truck motion of camera in r7 can be done using the move icon (arrow mark) with right mouse button (command+button).:)

And in R8, RMB and drag on zoom icon changes the focal length instead of the camera distance. Same thing if you hold down the shift key while rolling the mouse wheel.
I wish there was a way to change the mouse wheel increment. I get way too much camera movement with a single wheel roll.

I agree. Maybe about 3 times larger movement of camera than r7, and can't find increment setting.:hmm:

Thanks Srek, I'll try editing with a real camera and see how that works for me.
