I have just started to learn UV mapping, and I have come across this problem.

First I make the checkered texture which will be used to change the seams in my F15 model. Then I perform the auto map, I see a large checkered square texture in the UV texture Editor with the UV's spread out over it. So far no problem. Then, say I make any changes to the hardware texture quality in the hypershade or I save and restart, then only the faces are checkered in the UV Texture Editor and the rest of the large square is changed to grey.

Is there an easy way to revert back to having the whole area in the UV editor checkered again? Otherwise I cant continue matching the seams.

I'm a newb, and Im hope this question makes sense. :)

BTW, CG Talk Rocks! :buttrock:

Hi !
In the UV editor, have you checked the option Image/Display Image ?
I'm also a beginner in UV mapping but it works well for me.

cheers.

Yeah I can see the texture but its only within the UV's faces.

I sorted it out though, as soon as I changed the Hardware Texture quality from highest back to Default, everything was back to normal. For some reason, it goes wierd with higher texture quality.

but thnx for the help.

Hi Reaperman,
here's a couple of links to some texture tutorials.

This first link is for UV unwrapping that I found really good. It is a movie that you can download and save. Its 25 meg.
http://www.trinity3d.com/M4F/tutorials/UnWrap/Final.wmv

This next link takes you to a database that has already been filtered for texture tut's.

http://www.maya3d.dk/links/tutorials/index.asp?filterT=Category&filter=Texturing&alf=&order=Added

Both of these links can be found in the tutorials thread. There's heaps of great links there.

goodluck!
