i was adding details for a normal map to my character at 5 subdivisions, i was adding veins and the detail looked like square zig zags instead of smooth nice detail, when i rendered out the normal map it looked even worse, how do i fix this?

Hi, it would be easier to help if you could post an image of it. How much polygons is the character now? Maybe there is a problem with the topology so you dont have enough polys in this region.

It sounds to me like your texture size is to small, 4096 x 4096 would be the texture size required for really close detailing, but it will add to the strain on your workstation...

For Best results in Projection Master, the mesh should be as dense as your machine can handle too...
