I completed this drawing this afternoon, and it's a huge drawing (5) 8 1/2 x 11 papers taped together. C&C are welcome.

it looks good MR.LEE...
got a (?).....does the drawing have to be that big to get the right perspective? because it looks like it has a lot of vanishing points...

one more(?): do your V points ever go off the page?
thanks:)
anyway it looks great:bounce:

Very nice indeed!!!

Also, the work on your website rocks :buttrock:

Do you think that you might be interested in doing some concept art for the rtk project? we're made up of several members from here at cgtalk, and we desperately need concept work....

I know, I know, someone of your skill probably doesn't have time....oh well, at least I asked....

PS..you might want to check out our forum at http://learncg.f2o.org/forum

You might recognize some of us, maybe not....

Again, very nice work...

Ed you rock man. The only crit I would have is the heavy black outside the model. It seems a little overpowering, and has a weird shape. But all of your stuff has me in awe, I just had to come up with something to crit.

freddy7133d: I started out on 81/2x11 paper but as I drew first few lines I added another, then another. I put this drawing up on a wall, and it was huge. Size does matter when it comes to client presentation is what I thought. This has 3 vanishing points, and two were off da page, way off....I've a "proportional divider" that I use in case I really need to be precise.

art7sayan: I appreciate that.

unLevel: I need to work for bucks..cuz of my lifestyle. HEH.

dmcgrath: Yeah, it's something I got from Syd Mead, Joe Johnston and Nilo-Rodis Jamero. They all did that.

cleptocat: Sure thing man.

Please, take me to your planet..:bounce:

A more useful critic:
Technically (sp?) its superb, three point conical prespectives are a nightmare to draw (i usually have the vanishing points out of the table). The drawing looks good with all those meassure lines, quite engineer look.
Critics on the design of the cruiser: the ship looks as as a sea destroyer, i mean, it has only weapons on the upper part, not under the sea surface, space is 3D, little starfighters can attack from everywhere, so you need gun towers all over the hull.
Your drawings are great, i like your site and absolutely love your underwater dino.

This looks awsome, you have a good understanding of perspective. Specially the cirkels an ellipses are something a lot of people struggle with. I believe you have them all in the right positions.

Something bugs me though, I don't really like the black shape behind it. It influences the shape of the ship. I understand you don't want to spend a whole marker just on a back, but why don't you just cut out your drawing and paste it on a big piece of black paper? And if you make some powder of white chalk mixed with babypowder, you can even make a nice softly brushed glow behind it.
Some higlights with some white covering paint would do good to it aswell.

And you don't need to work that big :D

Since sum peeps complained about my artsy blacked-in marker
fill for background...

http://www.edleeart.com/images/destroyer2.jpg

I decided to do somethin' bout it.

The perspective lines are meant for me to keep track of all the over-lapping shapes, they are a guide so I can do elipses and whatnot. Instead of erasing them, I kept it in.

And yes, there should be guns beneath and on sides. However, the ship also carries little fighters and will release them from below and and on sides. I would post the little fighters but didn't feel it was good enough.....I may revise and post later on.

ha ha ha
Me being one of the complainers of the black background I'll let you know why. Even though the ship is huge, five pieces of paper taped together. I think shrinking it down to a digitally displayable piece made the black too overpowering, that's all. I'm sure I wouldn't have even mentioned it had I seen the original. Until I drueled on it and made the paper ripple.
Nice work, nice site, keep us in mind when you need an ego boost.
Thanks Ed.
