Let the floodgates open!

Again, Leo, Anton, and all the folks behind the scenes, I think you've really outdone yourself and created a fantastic addition to the website. I can't wait until the dust settles and we all can start cranking along with it.

Humble suggestion: an FAQ thread? If nothing else, for the hundred "why can't I host my reel yet" questions (answer: wait for it).

I predict very busy times for Anton, Tim, and Mibus. :D Amazing job you guys, the CGP is fantastic!!!

Have fun, everyone!

I agree- a FAQ would be great for this once a lot of people begin trying it out.

Awesome! I do have a little problem though. When I go to create my portfolio it sends me to this details page. Once I submit that, it sends me to a confirmation page, the when I hit Create Portfolio it sends me right back to the details page. I'm not missing any of the required fields so I'm not sure what's going on. Can anyone help me out?

Hey Anton, what was the consensus about links to a member's portfolio from the dropdown when you click on their name on cgtalk? I remember this was brought up, but don't remember what the deal was. Was just thinking it'd be an easy way to check out peoples' portfolios, and I can't imagine it would be too difficult to implement...

It's entirely possible that I am functionally blind (and probable that I am, on top of that, functionally retarded), but I don't see any blue link, or anything new in the dropdown... this (http://www.complexdream.com/tmp_images/cgtalk/cgp_screencap.jpg) is a screencap of what I am seeing.

Hey Jason, you're not alone. I don't see the magic blue pill . . . I mean button either. I was kind of confused at first about what I was supposed to be seeing. The only time when I do see the blue button is when I view that member's profile. Then again, maybe that's what is supposed to be happening. Dang it, I knew I should have taken the blue pill.

This is an excellent new feature! Thanks to all the folk at CGTalk for REALLY taking this forum to the next level!

Although I do have one small crit... in the yellow text fields, the input text's colour is white... is it just me or is it completely impossible to see what one is writing in those fields?

Cheers!

Sounds to me, like you have google toolbar installed; It highlights autofillable fields with yellow backgrounds. Unfortunately it does not force the text to be a contrasting colour.

Turn off the autofill functionality and those text boxes will return to their default dark grey.

Congratz! This is looking wonderful and very well designed! I am looking forward to clicking those portfolio buttons from now on whenever I see someone posting a piece of art I like.

As for me:
Not that I had anything other to showcase atm but my incompetence :D (so it's not too bad for me), but I am much too attached to my username to change it for all of cgsociety's areas "only" for a portfolio.

Why can't usernames and portfolio subdomains differ? Because I really really could not imagine changing my username for that...

That new shiny blue button sure is pretty, but I hope it gets changed to integrate better with the color scheme and design of this site(s). Something greyish maybe or subdued orangy-red? Just kind of sticks out, it's not bad looking. Sorta of fits, but not quite.

BTW, is there any way to "deactivate" for now. I don't have anything in there, some how I turned it on, but I don't want people wasting their time clicking on it if it's empty.

Great gesture though.

Great job on the Portfolio section, now that it's public I think this has more potential than I could have imagined. I can only imagine what going to happen in the next year to come after this sinks in for everyone.

Thanks CGS team, this has been a long time coming!

OMG, my avatar has been forced into a square size! Kefka is all squashed now:/

Otherwise this is really nice, even if I have my own website I think it's a very good move for everyone. I'm just not sure what to do with it since my portfolio is already on the web.

This made my month. I'd been mulling about the idea of a website for my portfolio and reel and you guys come along and do all of the ground work for me! This should prove to be a boon to developing artists and those of us who aren't exactly html-savvy.

Also provided a perfect reason for me to upgrade to a CGSociety membership. :)

That's dynamite! Many thanks to CGS. I got excited when i first heard the idea of
an online portfolio for 3d artists as a means/opportunity to showcase our works. Now,
it's finally here. :scream:

Kudos on a job well done to those that worked on this.

A few things, first off I love the new character icons.. portfolio and leader/staff ones

and one other thing, I thought portfolio was only going to be for society members? That was one of the perks of signing up when society first launched..?

Uh no. We never said that. We always wanted to have portfolio available to all, but with a certain level of limitations. CGS members get a whole lot more, not just with the portfolio, but with all the combined benefits. Here's a comparison (http://www.cgsociety.org/about/)of what you get between a free CGTalk membership and CGS Membership.

Working for a better site (thought it couldn't be better ^_^)
That is an awesome new feature, and very nice when discovering a new member artist and wants to see more. (wich is very often my case ^_^)

Thanks alot and huge big up to the team

No, that's no bug. There's no difference. It's written that way so that people are CLEAR about what is given in both memberships.

Then I thought that "Access to exclusive CGSociety articles" was granted to CGS member only?

Then I thought that "Access to exclusive CGSociety articles" was granted to CGS member only?

Yes it was, but we are opening it up to registered CGTalk members for a number of reasons:

1. Not many CGSociety members were reading the CGS exclusive articles we were producing, despite us spending so much time, money and effort on them, so it's best to let a wider community benefit from them. Only CGTalk members and CGS members can access these 'special'/'exclusive' articles.

2. We've added a whole lot more benefits for CGS members and will continue to do so, make sure that CGS gets much more than their money's worth in membership!

This is going far off topic from the thread. Can we please continue by email? Please email me at leonard@ballisticmedia.net if you wish any further clarification.

Thanks,

Leo

I think it's phenomenal that CGS offers great benefits to registered users. This is above and beyond any other sites out there. As a member it is my privilege to help sponsor some of that with my meager contribution. Any extras I get out of this (like unlimited gallery) are just gravy.

I always wondered what you looked like Leo. Is that a Weimaraner?

This was certainly a pleasant surprise this morning! (Although my user preferences had been mysteriously changed since my last visit--strange, but easily fixed.)

This might have been posted already, but I haven't gone through all ten pages yet. . .

On my profile page (not in the Portfolio) it has "Student" under Job title.
and on my portfolio page, the "about" section says
Studying to be Student

Well, I am a student, but I'm not studying to be a student. . . ???

That's great stuff. I hope you can handle all the bandwith that's coming at you.

I don't know if it's been asked before ... these threads keep getting really long in such a short time ... but is it possible to link to your images, for a gallery post or something like that. Or even outside cgnetworks?

ya you can :D

EDIT: Btw, another question, when putting in keywords.. how do you put them in? seperated by comas? spaces? or what? I do it like "blah, blah, blah, " and I tried "blah, blah, blah" but neither works.. I search up my pics but notta..

I've noticed an bug in portfolio.
If you enter the url of your website correctly you'll get //// instead of // in url.

Example:
http://www.mysite.com (http://www.mysite.com) will become http:////www.mysite.com (http:////www.mysite.com)
http:www.mysite.com will become http://www.mysite.com (http://www.mysite.com)

Wow, I am also on deviant art and the comprison between CG's attitude to its members and Deviant's is huge. Deviant Art has just launched a new campain of adds, even to its paying members. And this its not even to fund some new feature.
