Hello all

[I have also posted in the Finished Work Gallery. So go here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35455) for more c&c]

This thread is the start of a concept sketch for a model I will soon make. The project is for my showreel and needs to be done ASAP. I'm hoping that putting the work up here as I go will motivate me along aswell as your c&c.

I've been doing this mecha design for ages and have finally come up with a design I like. A few areas are a bit shady like the shoulder joint, it probably is not strong enough and feet need refining. But I'm gonna stick with this and start colouring it. So if people have c&c as I go it would be much apreciated even the smallest thing.

I came up with a technique to help me block out the design so I didnt have to fiddle around with perspective drawing, which I'm a novice at and takes me a while. I blocked out the design in Max and did a wire render of it to use as a giude:

you can also find a rotating anim here (284k): http://www.akewt.com/mecha/mecha_modelsketch_animS.avi

and the line drawing with detail:

I've started slapping some colour on it and will post stages as I go and hopefully with your help come to a finnished peice. :surprised

bonet de douche!

ps. I got much of my inspiration from Wiro's robot 'BuB' (cod-piece especially). I'm a big fan! http://www.secondreality.ch/

I've started the background. its a couple of layers produce with a reall ytransparent brush with wet edges. i really want the whole image to have a paintily feel about it so you can see the brush strokes. i will add l8r to the background with lighter layers building it up over time.

Ive added to the background now but i'm still not happy with it. i want more variation in it but am stuck for the mo. I've also put in the dark layers for the different parts. the colours ive used are the complimentary colours of what i should end up with.... hopefully. so the purpley bits will be greyey yellow and blue parts will be gun metal. if any one has ideas about wot i can do with the background thers a reply button especially for it ^ ;)

two layers added to the yellow parts. one slightly lighter than the other. im starting to think it would look better with the mech posed. oh well

background looks koo to me,
but it looks sort of like your character is translucent over it,
make sure the character stands out.
I like the second colorscheme better.

btw, your little technique sure does make your perspective look pro! :)

tad: yeah man. it need sa lot more layers built up over the top. eventually it will be solid. those colours are just to give it depth. i think with the perspective thing i'm being lazy. but it works so what the heh!

melmann: thanks dude. should have another stage up soon!

Akewt. Everything Well?
This being good the concepit. Simple they put pleasant.. I only think the part of the shoulder should receive more attention, don't ask it that can make a good shoulder movement there... I think the biseps this a little flat, seeming a toothpick of ice cream... it can increase some details the armor, as screws, rivets, those details that make the robots to seem more complex....
See my mechas! I try to place many details Ok
I hope to see its more robots..

D-3 - wow, thats a lot of images! lol thanks for the crit tho i think i understand it to be that its needs more detail in the upper arm area. i agree with you man it looks a bit weak at mo. but will probably change design in the model stage.

complete2, danne_n - i agree guys thanks. a nice easy fix i can do with not too much bother. :)
