Very good wip, shows that anime can trully be done well in 3d. Great work. Show us more:applause:

Looks great, I really like the hair.

I'll give you 4 stars for modeling, you earn the 5th by texturing:beer:

Hey is it possible to see a wireframe shot?? Particularly the face area... I would like to know how you did the hair and eyes.. I would love to try my hand at anime style character modeling... Awesome work..

Thanks for your comments! :D

Here is the head shot. Remember that this is WIP. I still think I need to work on the body and I am having soooooo much hard time painting the eye. That the one of the hardest thing to do. I suck at texturing. I am working on a game model, which is forcing me to practice texturing. I am getting better... but not there yet... Anyway, here is the wire shot of the head.

Note that I was lazy to make ears! :surprised

Maybe I will put it in later. Her hair is covering it so I didn't need it. So Rei can't hear anything you say! :p Hmmm.... that was bad... :wip:

It seems like the proportions are a bit off and that ridge underneath the eyes doesn't do it for me. I really like the hair and I'd love to see some toon-shaded renders. Keep the faith!

Nice to see Rei here! So far she looks nice.

I am curious as to how you are going to fit the eye onto the face. i.e. your eye areas are kind of flat (rectangle-like), but the eyeballs are more round (am I making any sense?)

I am in the process of making an anime style character myself, but making an anime face look good and not like an alien ain't easy. So it's good to see someone making it work.

I assume you got some reference of Rei already. I have a bunch of Rei blueprint, if you want I can post them here so you can have more reference.

Thanks for the comment...

I thought of that myself. The eye is the problem. I do have two spheres setup as eyeballs and I had one hack of a time setting that up. I think it my work or I may need to find some other way. Maybe we can help each other! ^^ Well, I may not be much of a help, but I can try.

To tell you the truth, I don't have much reference. What I have is $120 resin kit of Rei that I made and painted(air brush). It took me a month! My other hobby is resin kits and plastic models... I used that resin kit to build her in LW.

I have lots of work to do on her. I admit. I have seen so many awesome stuff on this site that I sometimes feel discouraged, but I will keep on going.

I hope to give you better work next time.

Until then... Thanks.

Dont worry about making the face flat. I know that anime eyes and faces are a little flat but you can make them round and it looks great. Smooth out underneath the cheaks and pull the center of the eyes forward and the inner eye back a little to form around the eye better. Your off to a great start! Post an update if you have one

Some reference of Rei that might be helpful to your modeling:

After looking at the reference pics and doing some research on my own... I decided to redo Rei. Her head is too small and her body is too mature or too big. Something didn't seem right. I have good reference pics now plus my resin model, so this time, I should be able to do better job.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks everyone.

Hi guys,

I have been tinkering with Rei this evening... After looking at sample head done by proton, I understood what I was missing! :wip:

The inner eye lashes! I carefully inspected proton's head and performed similar thing to rei's head. I also tested it with test eye texture and it came out okay. I got rid of the ridge under the eye and smoothed out the cheek little bit. The overall shape of the face is good, but I had some problems. I think it looks way better than the first one. Thanks everyone and I will work on the hands too! I will keep you posted. I appreciate your help. Thanks.

Here is a shot!

PS - The eye is just test texture...

I really like the concept drawings. Very nice, ready to be modeled and morphed. If you take a harder look at the concept, and model her from there, you'll gain alot in this model. She's classic anime in the concept, but not in the execution. If you can achieve that level in drawing, you surely can achieve it in modeing, given sufficient time.

Keep at it, and keep updating.

Brett

My god in heaven! She has an evil look in her eyes! She looks like she wants to kill and maim Auska!

Give her eyes a sleepy look already!

Very nice start. A couple of suggestions...

I'd round her face a little more, especially the cheeks.

For the eyes, scale a sphere into an oval, then place it at the eye. This will be your reference object. Then create spheres for the eyes and scale them using bones to match your reference objects. Check my cartoony eye setup tute in Newtek's tutes for more detail.

The shoulders definitely need more detail, I can see individual polys there. When you start to move the character, these polys will be even more obvious.

The breasts look like they could do with some more detail too, or at least smoothed out a little.

Here are two pictures that I worked on... They are not done yet, but I think it is improved. The hair texture was done in five minutes. It is just test... Thanks for your comments.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure I've seen a 3D Rei somewhere before....maybe it was just a resin kit. I'm all confused now, and I'm going to have to dredge through my archives to see if I can find it! ARRGH!

Turning Evangelion characters into 3d is a VERY common & popular thing. And a nice experience aswell =)
Don't know way I haven’t done it yet though. God going! And remember Rei is a child and have not that wide chest.

Actually, if you look at some of the images floating on the web, you will notice that she is not portrayed as child. She is a high school girl, I think. The resin kit I have that I made and painted, has similar breast. Besides, one doesn't have to follow the original character design. I think as long as she resembles rei from Evangelion, it will be ok.

Thanks for the comment.

Well I finally found the other 3D Rei that I was looking for. I knew I'd seen one somewhere else before!

Its at Yamag's Garage:

http://www001.upp.so-net.ne.jp/yamag/e_top.html

Click on the Anime Girls 1 link for the Evangelion stuff.

I do really like your one though - have you managed to piece together one of those resin models? I could never manage to do them without it all going out of shape and looking like Quasimodo.

Anyway, I wanted to just show you the Yamag's garage stuff for a bit of inspiration to see how someone else had approached it.

Cheers

Thanks for the link man. Cool stuff. I don't know if I can model like that... I need more work. I want my Rei to be perfect or close to it. I got the hair pretty close though... ^^

Thanks for the input.

I will find some time to work on this. I will get you another picture pretty soon.
