View Full Version : Grime and dirt???

I made these keys for an other picture, but wanted to improve them ... :hmm:

They need dirt in the cutouts - I know there's a plugin for that kind of stuff for Max (DirtyReyes)
Does anyone have a solution to do that in C4D? (I tried it so far using SLA Nukei, but not to my satisfaction)...

Make some set selection tags for the areas you want to be dirty bud, then use dirty nuts and select vertex tags, and voila dirt only where you specify :)

Other then that I use 2d noise in the color channel and use black and a very dark grey, then in diffusion I use something like turbulence in a fusion shader and dirty nuts and usually multiply as well, blending mode to suit really. For the alpha I use turb again or something similar and crank up the contrast, then tweak the high and lows. For bump a small bump of say random {make black 50% grey} 2d works nicely sometimes, and for spec I usually set spec just a smidgeon lower then the spec of the material I am dirtying, depending on the depth of crap I am looking for.

Thx Stu

I'll definitely try that
One question though.. if I would just want to have the dirt really in the corners of the cutouts, according to your solution, I'd have to subdivide a lot to get extra pol's in those corners and probably use a gradient as falloff to keep it in the corners.. am I correct?

:hmm: hmmm Ya you might be right,what if you used a gradient and dirty nuts in a fusion shader and used the gradient to control where you put the grime :) {use levr blend mode}

Yeah, might be an idea!

I've never seen a pluginshader that can do this for C4D, have you?
I wonder if you could do this through XPresso, like checking the angle of polygons next to each other and change color or diffusion at that point... wouldn't know how to do that...

I'll sleep on it..

cheers!

checking the angle of polygons next to each other and change color or diffusion at that point Well, isn't that what dirtynuts do, not exactly but allmost, I think it calculats the distance to other polys

......ok.....feeling so stupid... :thumbsdow

that's what you get when you hardly ever read manuals..

Thanx Bjotto and Stu, all it needed was DirtyNuts and some adjustment to the settings and it already looks a lot better -now for a good scene - something like a street or gutter with sewer , like someone just dropped them...

anyway THX:bounce:

No prob

I grimace at some of the really stoopid things I have done in the past with C4D :) ....actually there is an old thread somewhere where sme of us fessed up at the doofus things we have done.
