Hi there,
Ive been having some fun experimenting with 3dsmax5
please let me know what could be improved in these simple scene. Also I could use any helpfull tips like how to create the lightbulb so it looks lit up (there is no lightbulb in the scene now because i wasnt sure how), and how does one make some good smoke (the cig smoke looks pretty weak).

maybe fillet or chamfer some of the edges a little, nothing is that crisp, the scene setup is nice, add some smoke coming off the ash tray, and the Shade over the lamp seems like flat vector stuff, needs some kinda shadows/shading to it or maybe also a pattern.

But those edges should be a great start.

is there a light bulb in there,, doesn't look like it,, that area on the lamp shade would get a bit more brighter.

Hope I gave some ideas, to get this further along.

as it now sits looks pretty basic and made out of primitives.

Keep at it. :wip:
;)

Which edges do you mean? And by chamfer and fillet you mean the edges need to be blunted/rounded a little bit?

-also, how do I create a brighter area on the lamp shade? That is why there is no bulb in there, I can model one fine but it just looks like an unlit 'lump' behind the shade. How do I make it bright and 'lit'?

-and again, what would you (or anyone reading this), recommend for some good interesting looking smoke? (twisty tendrils and stuff)

thanx for the feedback

yes Remi,
the cigarette on the table was deliberate.
