View Full Version : Director MX: Tweening text along guide path
Halogen 03-18-2006, 02:32 PM Hey all.
Have a question, not sure how simple it is at all but ill ask. Im new to director, learning it at uni. Question is, how do i tween text to follow a vector line, and NOT stay horizontal. For example, a line that curves from the ground to the sky, have the text follow that line like it was a carriage on a rollercoaster. Hope that makes sense o.O.
Looking forward to some help. Thanks guys :)

We generally don't get Director questions around here as I think that there isn't a forum intended for such discussions. I'd suggest you find a more appropriate website, but unfortunately I don't know of any good director forums.
I have a quick answer though. As far as I'm aware you can't animate objects along a specific path in director. You can right click on keyframes and edit the tweening properties and adjust the curvature of motion then with the sprite channel selected you should see dots indicating the path of the motion which you can then shape and control to a certain degree. The other alternative is to play an *.swf in director as a sprite from Flash which has specific path animation tools.

Hi Ian,
Yeah sorry about posting this in the wrong section. I had no clue where to put it, and i dont know any forums where actual intellectual people read it :P.
Regarding your response, yeah ive considered both options, i dont really want to use director, as ive found out through further research that it is rather inflexible. It would turn out too messy if i need to rotate text continuously. I would also have to break up my sentances word by word.
With flash, i cant find an easy way for it to actually follow the line but not stay horizontal. I think ill look for a workaround for this problem. Thanks for your time mate :)

Np, there used to be a section here accomodating these kinds of questions but it didn't get used much and got scrapped. Director is messy with these kinds of things so Flash is a better option by far. Here's a quick soundless video tutorial for you.

Hope that helps.

Not a problem, I just quickly recorded it with Camtasia because it's such a clear way of demonstrating.
