When the wind blows
Cinema 4D 9.5 + Hair Module
I finally got to the stage where I have some stuff to post.
The idea is . . . the main character has been gathering dandelion clock extracts; but time runs out as the storms are on their way and the wind is blowing the dandelion clocks away and everything else in its path. She has to flee ASAP with her cat back to the safety of the city in the far distance.
I'll be using Cinema 4D and have the new Hair module (which I'm still getting to grips with). Hopefully I will have time to finish everything and get the cat modelled complete with hair.

The face went through many stages before it stopped looking like an alien. I need to give her some hair and have a go with the C4D hair module.

Body almost done, but I'm now have to do the hardest bits - the hands and feet. I may have to delete some of the body and model the costume - it all depends on how well I get on with C4D's Clothilde.

The main focus of the scenery will be lots and lots of dandelion clocks. My machine is starting to grind I've used the Cinema 4D Hair module for the hairy bits and used the array to duplicate.
I scanned in dandelion leaves for the textures.

A quick test to see how the emitter will handle throwing out all the hairs - it's not too bad, but I have many more dandelions to add to the scene yet. The grass is also C4D Hairs.

The concept sketch is gorgeous and the models look great too! Although I think the womans cheek bones are a bit too defined.

Thank you for your comments Womball.
I played around with the jaw earlier and that somehow improved the cheek bones. I may have a go with the cheeks gain.
This is my first time in these challenges and my fourth attempt at 'character modeling' - I'm soooooo impressed with this forum and all the work that goes off I just wanted to be apart of it all. I may have more time for the next challenge.
Best of luck buddy!!

Really nice idea. Great to see another Cinema Hair Module user too. The dandelions are looking fantastic - very convincing. With the grass, perhaps you could lighten its colour at the roots (left side of the gradient in the top of the colour tab of Hair material), and add some variation to the grass length (variation setting in the length settings of Hair material)
Good luck!

All that work on the ear and you can't see them!! I need to use the brush tool to get the hairs where I want them.

Started playing around with textures - I quite like the purple, bit the brown tunic looks more like our-door clothing. I need to add things like buttons/buckles - that will come after I've finished the cat!!

She has a slight hairy ear problem at the moment. When she is in position I'll manipulate the hair more so you can see her ears.
Now I have to finish her hands and get her into position.

You might want to check out the hand workshop they have in the anatomy forum here. I like her posed she looks a little strange in teh defualt pose cheekwise. However that seems to disapear in the current pose.

Hair with me trying to get a bit of wind behind it - it needs more gaps in the hair.

Because I've used soooooo much hair. all the Dandelion clocks, the grass and her hair - I needed to render the scene three times and pur it together in Photoshop. My machine has 4gb of memory, yet died in 2 seconds of rendering with all the hair enabled.
Sad!!

Final image at last - after 10 hours of rendering and putting it together.
It's been hard work but fun - and learnt loads!

Great to see you finished. Those dandelions came out looking fantastic and the whole image works really well. Congratulations

I'm glad I finished. It's my third attempt at a character. The scenery was 'slapped together' at the last minute, I've not done scenery in Cinema 4D before and it shows. I also didn't realise that you could use Photoshop to tweak your image. I'll know for next time.
