Last time I bombed out with my flying stingray picture (as some of you may remember), but I will try my hardest to this time complete a piece for this challenge! I have seen some pretty inspirational images already, I only hope I can do the same for others! Might have a sketch or WIP colouring up by late today!

Thanks :D

This is my caricature of Asafa Powell (Worlds Fastest Man) in which will be used for my in my final image! I will have a composition up within the week!

Thanks, comments and suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hey guys,

Just a VERY rough line art design...

I wanted to have many parts of the theme "Journey" in this piece. You may notice that their is a chain reaction from when people noticed the explosion in the stadium... This indicates the exact moment one's life changes (or their "journey's" taking another route).

Also their is the "Journey" of all the athletes who must run, in the fastest possible time around the track...

I hope you like where it is going, more updates to come!

Journeys can happen anywhere... They are constantly occurring in the most random of places, but each and every journey is specific to one person, altering their lives in one way or another...

New concept drawings since the last one was not well taken... It's going to be a massive fishing hovercraft floating over the amazon!

This is what I think I will have as my final concept!

It is a massive hovercraft which uses old techniques to catch fish in the Amazon river... They do a fortnightly course of the whole river and sell the fish on the markets.. I may add a wooden like city in the background, but I'm not sure!!

Tell me what you think though!

Thanks and ENJOY!

Hey there Mason, thanks for your support at my thread! Now my turn!

I didn't quite understand your earlier concept at first glance. But I really like your latest concept! Looks like someone built a strange ship form whatever he could find to set off on a wild adventure. It will look better with someone on it (perhaps steering the ship) and some sailors and a lookout at the crow's nest.

Push onwards, my friend!

Thanks alot man!!! Ohh a crows nest!!! I totally forgot!!

It might be a bit hard to have someone steering the ship, but I do have some sailors fishing off the jetties! I really want to have an eerie feeling of floating fish almost... Because of how thin fishing line is!

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you like it so far!

wow this is lookin pretty cool now that you've added the colors. i agree with jeromoo on your latest concept, this i feel is stronger than the previous ones. the colors are simple, yet theres a really nice feel to it, i think its maybe to do with the composition as well. keep it up!

Thanks alot Cok3, I'm glad you like my image! I shall keep working on this image!

Tell me what you think!

Thanks

04-18-2006, 06:16 PM
well, you could always try painting details, and check if it looks better with or without the lineart when your done, since its separate layers. i'm havin a hard time imagining it without the lineart though. perhaps it'll be a totally different look. we'll just have to wait and see i guess :)

Might change the colour scheme in the foreground to a darker purple/green, so it looks like the sun is just rising and I can get some awesome/eerie like shaddows and highlights on the boat/fish!!

I like to keep you guys updated on my train of thought... so, what I'm thinking is... doing this piece without any line art in the final piece! I think I will just make it extremely detailed with highlights and shadows etc! I may change my mind, if so you will all be informed! :D

Thanks!

<EDIT>

Acctually, it looks worse when there is no line art to me... I think I will just trace over it again, but with thinner lines!

Thanks for the comments on my thread Mason! I wanted to check out your piece and discovered that your signature didn't have a link to your Journey begins thread.

A very nice man once told me that its VERY important to have a link to your thread in your sig...that way, you're advertising your current artwork everytime you comment on someone else's.

I practice what I preach; whenever I go into a thread (such as this one) I have a tendency to check out the entries of those who have posted interesting comments.

All that aside, I love the concept you have going. Perhaps one of the weights being cut loose (to signify a "beginning")? Just a thought.

Thanks, and good luck! :buttrock:

Hey Mason Thank you so much for your valuable crits. When are you going to start putting the colours in? Is that forest in the background? I suggest not putting it there, try replacing it with an island instead. Give a sense of a vast environment compared with the forest version which makes it look like a lake.

Will be expecting your further progress soon! :)

Hey, no problem! I should hopefully start to put the colours in this week, might start on some tonight!

The scene is meant to be the forest on the sides of the amazon river! Maybe instead of an island I can have a wooden forest city in the background?

Tell me what you think!

But, I will make them pales of water being let loose, since I want to keep the old wooden boat feel!

I think the pails of water are an excellent idea.

I like how its comin' along; I'm curious to see what colors you'll choose. I don't want to taint any thoughts you would have, but I'm thinking fishermen, journey...early morning color palette; soft orange sky, heavy atmospheric impact.

Of course, the ship could be going on a journey to catch the most notorious noncturnal fish...and thus needs to leave in the evening.

Just some thoughts. Good luck w/ this one!

It is set in the morning! :D So, yes I will most probably do the soft orange/yellow colours, but whilst still retaining the green! I will have very dark shaddows in the foreground (the ship) and have all the morning colours toward the background! This way it should give the feeling of morning just sweeping over the land!

Hi Mason, right now its very difficult to judge which one is better because we need to see the whole thing fleshed out a little bit more. Try to go ahead with painting the whole thing in.. no need to be so detailed, but just enough to be able to see the painting in its whole. This way we can see how the colours will work overall better. BTW, I like the use of unusual colours to depict an ordinary object to make it new and fresh. Brown colour on the ship is a little boring.

In your latest update, there is too much white in the sky, so its a little glaring.

Go, go! Keep pushing onwards! perhaps you want to widen the painting a bit more. Looks too crammed up in there.

Brown colour on the ship is a little boring.

In your latest update, there is too much white in the sky, so its a little glaring.

Go, go! Keep pushing onwards! perhaps you want to widen the painting a bit more. Looks too crammed up in there.

Thats what I shall do then! Next update it will be all fleshed out! As well as making the sky a little dimmer I will also see what widening the image does for the composition!!

Thanks;)

Hi Mason

Where's the update. I like your concept and like Jerome said it would be great to see it with a bit more colour.

...and there only 2 weeks left!

Way to hard to complete this challenge due to school work (Art and other subjects)... Might do a new one in 8 days though!
