Just a question to anyone who can answer. Does anyone know how to get the get contour option to work in mental ray? I can find the contour options in under the mental ray globals but i have no idea how to use them.

All i want is to get ink lines for a toon render. I've looked at the documantation, but it goes over my head. It talks about specific shaders but i can't seem to find any, and i don't know how to write my own. I know that it should be possible to get good ink lines using mental ray. I've tried using the ramp shader for ink lines but the result is horrible.

If anyone can help, or even discuss experiments thet you tried, it would be a great help. Thanks

try one of the example contour mental ray custom shaders.

look for "creating custom shaders" in the mental help.

i really hope this works now in the final (the beta hasn't worked)

btw : found the first bug in the final :)

thanks. now for a new question. I have the simple shaders working and they do an outline of an object. the shaders I need to get a more toon like look seem to work except for the "contour_store_function" shader. When I try to load this one up it brings up the connection editor ans asks me to connect the shader attributes to the render engine attributes. i have no idea what to hook up, and from the descrition of the shader i shouldn't need to connect anything. any idea if I'm doing something wrong or is MR4Maya still buggy.

oh and here's a picture of the one render i have so far. as soon as i figure out the better shader I'll write a tutorial or something and post it here. hope the picture attaches.
