Still working on a "look" for the image - this isn't a sketch but I wanted to get something posted. Dirigibles seem hot with the kids these days so I am going with it.

It was time to work the composition - I scanned these in shortly before sending them to the framing shop - after they get the gold leaf treatment I will hang them on the mantel for adoration.

So I was a little concerned with contest dirigible oversaturation - but then I realized that airship = gold! Then added some monkeys cause they kick serious ass - most of this composition is cut and pasted from other reference so I can make sure it looks right before I get all photoshop on the picture.

I like the style.

Is that chimpanzee throwing excrement at the ladies and gentlemen?

Nice idea and really nice to see something this unusual. The early drawings look like Monty Python meets Phileas Fog with a load of chimps which is not something you see evry day!

I look forward to seeing how this develops

Great stuff :)

this looks great. i concur about monkeys taking in a butt kicking or three. it's good to see that someone is using the same approach that i am to using reference to actually lay out a composition. look forward to seeing this one come along.

cheers and have fun,

omg at the style. looks good even though its a wip. looks like 80 days around the world or something. if not then what is the journey here ?
imo it has a lot of potential, just keep it up and finish it for all of us :)

So this is just the start of my line art stage but I wanted to post so....here is a piece. It seems like it's taking forever but I think things will speed up once I start working on the.....background. Yeah. I was trying to avoid a complete rip-off of Baron Munchhausen...so instead of a larger mustache he gets monster chops... so unless you have trouble differentiating subtle changes in facial hair they are 2 completely different characters.....duh

So this has been going really slow - I am still trying to work out how many monkeys I can fit - I decided that they need to more crazy and throwing things. Chitty chitty bang bang is on TV right now and holy shit! this movie is great! It's all old tyme and they are all wearing fancy clothes and flying around in airships, it's like everything I wanted this picture to be! I should start coloring soon if this is going to get done in time...I can't believe how fast other people in the contest are - pretty crazy.

So working on the composition more was getting boring so it's color time! And this is the first step.

Just a little update - only 11 days to go! I guess I better get on this! It's strange how "a little over 2 weeks" turns into 11 days quickly.
