h4d35 12-18-2002, 01:49 PM what the heck... here is another thread by me :)
beeing real creative it seems
well
i watched The Two Towers tonight...
Every second of lost nightsleep was worth it!
Gollum was so inspiring... so I had to try some for myself :)
its not meanth to be a portrait... i just got the motivation from him
this is very basic at this point... Skin is only procedurals
some sss and some lights...
I have one problem though... in the corners of his eyes you can see the contours of his eyeballs :( got any clue how to solve this?
im on max5 and finalrender
whaddaya think?

Surely some tear ducts will sort out the inner eye corners? The outer ones look ok to me, although I'd need to see a 3/4 view to double-check.

Thanks for the replies!
i have not fixed everything yet... i forgot to save the file at work so i had to redo all the texturing...
im just about to uv the little bastard up and start painting... but i think id throw you another angle with new lights and the new procedural skin
added some little chunks of geometry where the tearducts should be... but it doesnt look like it... bah... need more work.. and a shitload more of observation.
ears look as bad as they really are too...
well... ill try to post a first handtextured version tonite!
you never know ;)

Dude even has tear ducks, wow. Are you working in the 3d field, or a hobbyist who loves 3d? If you aren't you should be workin gin the 3d field full time
great work and detail in this character

Really cool face .
Great jobs for textures, maybe you should do the 2 eyes with same colors..
I really would like to see some facial expression from this character, it looks great !
Keep it up h4d35

Crash: no its not only procedurals anymore. if you read carefully i said i "Been paintin' textures..." :) i rendered the procedurals on a plane and took it as a base for the painting in photoshop. the on ly full procedural left is the specular-level... ill repaint that too quite soon. Hope i didnt get you down now!
And no, I dont think Weta wants me just yet :)
Most ppl seem to think that the face is way too saturated... I dunno really... but im gonna try a desaturated version. Maybe you are right! :)
ill try some expressions as soon as i have decided how his teeth should look. *grin*
Well id better get back to it as i still feel motivated!
Thanks for the replies!

Personally I like the "glowing fetus in the womb" coloring he had before

Same here. Thought that it looked pretty nice w/ the previous color.

I'm going to add to the chorus here... I REALLY liked the saturated colors a lot.
Great character.

golum was tinted with a lot more hues of grey, green and looked like very dark blue or black ? on the hair.

humm :) damn you :)
its about 50/50 about the colors... it really doesnt matter since im going to put him into some environment at some point. but hell...
im not trying to portait gollum... im just inspired by their awesome work on him... i started out with a pale green/gray but i felt that the pink looked better... if i get the time ill try an alternate color scheme
i started modeling on his body today at work since i had a little bit of time... ofcourse i forgot to take the file with me home... :/
so i cant show you now.... but the general shape of it is alright... still the details suck big time... i really need to study those damn muscles ;)
well... im damn tired... got to go play some on my guitar.. got new strings... have to "play them in" so they dont go out of tune :)
tomorrow it the last day at work this year! *wiiii*
lots of spare time :) i know exactly what ill do... three things..
1) sleep
2) model
3) drink some beer.... (and whiterussian.. im the dude ;)
Thanks for your answers!

Very cool expression test there. The only thing that bothers me is the warm colors of his skin. Seeing how he's a few hundred years old and been hiding in a cave for a long time, his skin would be more pale, and ghastly.
But then again, why should I complain? It's a cool WIP. :-)
