Some of those shots are too funny! I think we need more movies like this! :)

Hmm...the cg snakes seem a little behind the times, like the one that came out of the woman's shirt.

Woohoo! new animal movie. Love this genre. Hope it's a start of a batch of few varieties of animal movies. I haven't been freaked out since Arachnophobia, 8 Legged Freaks was too much of a comedy.

My god what's happening here!! Audiences no longer want such crappy hollywood jargin... if King Kong can't pull off the success it wanted, how can something this bad ever expect to!

Who on the earth did those cg snakes???? Sorry no offense, actually it looks like the team has been seriously rushed. shame.

P.S. What is it with 'big name' black actors recently...first wesley snipes starts making b-movie action films aka van damme, then cuba gooding jr gets low budget poor comedies after oscar success (although his latest 2 films may conflict with this statement) and then Samuel L Jackson making this and that crappy comedy The Man....Is Hollywood showing its racist side again! Shame on them, give these guys the work they deserve!

'cause there were no big name actors in Con Air at all were there. To name just one film. Honestly, it's like no white big-names (Charlize Theron, Milla Yovovich, Arnold Swarzethingy, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Robin Williams, etc.) have ever been in hokey movies.

As for the snakes: they're comedy snakes! They're not supposed to look real! Spoon.

I for one loved Con Air, Starship Troopers and both Bill and Ted films. I'm there.

this is the very definition of 'high concept' film making.

I would've loved to have been at the pitch for this one.

"ok i have this great idea for a film..imagine the scene..theres a plane and theres loads of snakes on that plane"

".....and?"

"and samuel l jacksons in it"

Whee! Looks like a fun ride. I've been expecting this one ever since I read about it on a screenwriter's blog (http://hucksblog.blogspot.com/2005/08/snakes-on-mother****ing-plane.html)

And a cruddy snake (in the CG-sense) in the trailer doen't necessarily mean it'll still be cruddy in the movie. I understand they use unfinished footage fairly regularly for trailers, do they not?

seven6ty
03-17-2006, 08:07 PM
I wouldn't necessarily say "unfinished", but they do tend to rework them and continue to make adjustments after they've been delivered for the trailer, so in a sense, yes.

Well, from a marketing perspective that actually makes sense. Advent Children is much more of a niche title, while thrillers (however cheesy they may be) have a far broader appeal.

I'm having trouble seeing this, and other recent footage, like Natalie's rap... It's streaming, speed is crap, like 10 or 20 x slower than normal. But it can't be that my connection is slower than anyone else's here, it's not the greatest but it's ADSL... how come no one else is complaining about the speed? I got the latest Flash version... is it Firefox? Or is there a 'download' option I missed somewhere?

Well, at least I got to study the whole thing frame by frame... :(

LoTekK
03-24-2006, 08:00 AM
Steven: For most of these streaming flash movies, you can typically pause the vid, and it'll continue downloading the rest of the movie (I tend to have to do this sometimes, when the speeds seem to be down). Wait a minute or two if your connection is slow, and you should be able to play without interruption.

Darn, a bit of sleuthing failed to turn up the correct local url for the flv file.

Whoa, I just tried the tagworld site again, and I don't think it's just you. Either their server's getting hammered, or something's wrong with the vid, coz where it used to play fine, it's playing like crap right now, even with the aforementioned pause-before-play workaround. :hmm:

Stahlberg
03-24-2006, 01:04 PM

It's getting big, check this story out..
http://edition.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/23/film.snakes.reut/index.html

This paragraph is the best, they are reshooting scenes of the movie in response to a groundswell of internet interest in the movie..

"The audio bit uses a Jackson sound-alike shouting, "I want these mother------- snakes off the mother------- plane!" Soon, the growing legion of fans added their voices as they demanded that that phrase also appear in the movie.
Apparently, the studio got the hint. When Ellis assembled Jackson and others for the recent shoot, the filmmakers added more gore, more death, more nudity, more snakes and more death scenes. And they shot a scene where Jackson does utter the line that fans have demanded."

Just read all of this thread and it just blows my mind how most posters are saying something along the lines of 'What a rubbish idea for a film!'...

1. The title (Which alone made S. Jackson sign up apparantly) stands out, it is so 'to the point' that it sticks in peoples minds. This was the whole idea behind it. Originally it was called 'pacific air flight 121'. Which is quite amusing in itself but obviously its not so in your face. It was changed to 'Snakes on a plane' to get people talking. With great sucess.

2. Surely its obviously supposed to be a spoof. I think any confusion of this may be because its the second (that I know of) ever spoof of a 'CGI dangerous creature film' such as deep blue sea, anaconda etc etc. The first was '8 legged freaks'.

3. Most of the CGI effects are, I presume, SUPPOSED to look bad to continue with its spoof theme. I mean come on, that shot where the snakes on the womans lap...I'm sure the artists behind that had alot of fun with that, I'm sure they were told to make that shot in paticular really bad just so that it stands out. To shock people watching the trailer.

Anyway, its worked. I want to see it just to laugh at hopefully what are good observations of the endless tacky 'CGI' action films out there. I really really hope that it just ends up really insane towards the end, like a hidden SUPER snake right at the end that can fire twin lazers.

The PA flight name was an internal working title. The original title was Snakes on a Plane, which was then changed for a while to the PA121 name, then changed back. this is quite while publicized, so I don't think it was just a gimmick to garner interest.

actually it isnt a trailer. It was a compilation of WIP shots from the various studios working on the film. I doubt anyone would intentionally make bad cg for a film these days.

and yeah, for a site where people are always complaining about how unoriginal hollywood is lately, I am also surprised to see so many negative reactions from people. Here, FINALLY, is something totally original, and people are complaining because of it. I think the genuis behind this type of film naming is that when you go to the theatre, you will see a poster for this, read the name, and know exactly whether or not you want to watch it. it doesn't mislead anyone.

I do think a twin lazer firing snake would kick ass though! :buttrock:

genuis behind this type of film naming
Yeah, I read somewhere, in some book on how to write screenplays, that a movie's name should be possible to shout to your friends across a huge noisy parking-lot, and they should get it immediately.
According to this theory, some not so great titles:
Girl, interrupted
Bridges of Madison County
Fried Green Tomatoes (wtf?)
