hi all
i'm compressing a targa sequence into an video file and the output file always varies in brightness and saturation
the brightness is slightly higher and saturation is lower than the original tga sequence

this happens in exporting to both mov and avi
i tried divx xvid and sorenson 3 . best settings for all and still the brightness changes
i tried compressing in AE, rendering targa and compessing in qtime or vdub and still the problem arise

is there any settings or workaround i'm missing to obtain the same brightnss/sat as in the original tga seq

help is much apreciated

i have found this problem.

quicktimes compressed with mpeg4, soreson, h.264 all lose colour from my experience.

2 compressions i think you will find you get the same as the original colour/contrast/brightness:

quicktime with motion jpeg compression. I like this one, though file sizes are a bit bigger than sorenson i think.

or WMV.

looks good, small file sizes, though doesnt seem as popular as quicktime, but i think its great.

you can download windows media encoder from windows site.

Oddly enough, if I recall correctly, this is a problem caused by Quicktime's hardware playback, not the actual data stored.

If you import the Quicktime clip back into After Effects (for instance) or disable Hardware optimization in your Quicktime settings, you should see the correct colors. (but everyone downloading your clip still won't)
