Hi all,
I have to make a short film.I have lots of ideas in my head for it,some really cool ones and some r just garbage.but i cant seem to make a complete story out of them. I get stuck with no solution.
just cant get that full circle.does some one has any idea what can be done to overcome this?I m not a story writer. How do all the pros here come up with creative solutions?
Thanks in advance

I'm pretty new to the whole screen writing thing but my advice to you is break your ideas into scenes and write them down in seperate index cards. I write down what characters will be in the scene, the location of the scene, and the reason/action to take place in the scene. This way you have a rough outline in card form so you can shuffle things around in an easy and organized way. Even if there are holes in your plot you can start to see a basic framework for your story and move forward from there. The main goal and point of this is to get the ideas out of your head and on to paper. I do this and pin the index cards on a board, then I can see the story in front of me. As you come up with new ideas you can easily place new scenes into the story. I hope this helps a bit.

few suggestions:

1. Whats the best possible thing that can happen to my protoganist, whats the worst thing that can happen from that! Ex: Person wins million dollars (best possible), but then the money drives him to kill his family because of greed (worst possible)

2. Resolution is always best with irony. Look at most successful shorts and the protoganist gets what he wants, but some twist leaves him baffled! I just saw the short Gone Nuts by BlueSky where Scrat gets his nut in the end, but the nut falls apart and he's left with nothing...
Let your character finally get what they want, but then do something ironic to have em loose it... The irony should be related to the sequence leading to the resolution

Hope these tips help!
