I’ve been watching Okami since it was first announced and every time I see a new bit of info or another gorgeous screen I fall in love all over again. This is truly one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen. Thank god the wait is almost over. The game will be hitting stores in just over a month.
Okami is the upcoming PS2 game from Clover Studios, the same development house that brought us Viewtiful Joe. In the game you play as the Sun God transformed into a wolf. Life has been sucked out of the world and it is your goal to restore the world’s beauty by defeating evil. Much like Princess Mononoke, the story deals with animal gods, humans and the importance of nature.
The most striking thing about the game is clearly the visual style. Much like Wind Waker awed me with it’s perfect storybook animation style, Okami is a visual treat of Japanese brush work. Speaking of brush work, the game also employs a virtual calligraphy brush in order to perform actions.
With the talent of Clover Studios this game is going to be amazing. Much like Zelda (which the game draws a lot of inspiration from - it features a similiar style of adventure, puzzle solving and side quests), the game has been delayed a few times, but it will certainly be worth the wait. To find out more about the game check out the recent developer interview over at Game Informer (with a funny part about Clovers reaction to Twilight Princess featuring a wolf) and the official site for a ton of great media.
