View Full Version : Animation Master to Maya import
magilla 12-18-2002, 05:20 AM Does anyone know a way to get clean AM models into Maya.
Not only do my 5-pointers disappear (to be expected) but I get an awful lot of discontinuous edges and weird face issues.
Currently I set it as a template and snap points to it, basically rebuilding from scratch!

How are you exporting out of Animation:Master? I've had luck using the OBJ exporter for A:M. Of the few models that I've imported that had 5-point patches or hooks, were easily cleaned up. In some (most) cases with models using 5-pointers or hooks, would be to go back into A:M and fix them there, if possible.
Another method that I've heard some former A:M users have been using and that I've tried, is to find the RIB exporter for A:M and use it, then import the RIB file into Maya. The surfaces come in as NURBS, but you need to stitch all the patches back together (a time consuming process, and one to which I've never found an easy solution).

hmmmm, obj you say, I've been using the dxf option - and it's very dodgy. Can't find the obj export - where would that be?

Yup... Here you go...
A:M v9.5+ http://12.213.91.41/AM/OBJ.hxt
A:M v8.5 http://12.213.91.41/AM/OBJ.hie
Download which one you need, and place it in the correct directory under A:M's installed directory. Open up A:M, and it will be in the export options.
If you're not using one of the above versions, let me know and I should be able to export the files for you.
Enjoy!

thanks dude - that is SOOO much better - still needs alot of cleanup but at least it's at a point where I can clean it - the dxf is just fragged beyond repair.
