View Full Version : 2D to 3D Logo Recreation
dtgrafx 03-16-2006, 03:07 PM Hello Everyone!
I'm 1-year new to 3D modeling using 3DSM. I would like to re-create the 2D logo below into 3D.

I want to have the "ICB" extruded from the sphere and follow the curvature of this sphere. I created a sphere, typed out the "ICB", face extruded, then I tried to boolean the text from the sphere. The text simply dissapears. Is there any other way to approach this?
Thanks!

Below is a screen shot of what I have so far.
How can I get the extruded ICB to follow the curvature of the sphere top to bottom?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

67 views and not one person has anything to say?
Is my question so silly that I should figure it out by myself?
Anything... anyone?

I use maya but i think your modeling suit might have the same stuff. Not sure but if it does try this, create a poly sphere, then use the create text feature set to curves mode to make the text part. Line the text up in front of the sphere and use the project curves on surface featrue. After you have done that convert it to poly and use the separate feature to bring it off the circle.

layout the Text with splines and use ShapeMerge on the a highpoly sphere, convert into an editable Poly, select the polys within the texxt an extrude them inwards.

Thanks for suggestions. I work with Max and tried scrimski method. It seems that the text is being projected as if in the front view. Below is what it looks like. I need to correct the curving "I". Any suggestions?
Thanks

your source image wont look good projected on a sphere.....that is what makes 2d "magical".....

With `conform`, which is found in the same menu like booleans you can
do any kind of projection you like,... but every projection youre going for
will have distortion so it wont completely look like your 2d reference.
I think its best to coform the text along its face normals with
the spheres pivot as target.

I'll try that. Thanks!
