Hello everyone, i've decided to enter the contest with an image i made a couple of days ago, here's a quick sketch of it. It's about a traveller who starts a journey. His journey will take him to the mountains trough a beautiful large meadow which homes some ancient ruins which were some time outposts of a city, to watch the creatures that were coming from the mountains.

Here's what i've managed to do untill now. Hope you like it, and if you have suggestions, i'll be glad to hear them :)

Here are the ruins and terrain.

Here are the grass and flowers. The grass is a scatter of one blade and the flowers are also scattered, and they are modeled, i didn't insist on them since they would be covered pretty much by the grass and the ones in the foreground and background are blurred by the DoF.
P.S:Sorry for not rendering these ones too.

Here are the path stones and two big rocks. The pathway stones are modeled to add a bit more realism to the pathway.

Here is the image unphotoshoped.I usually tend to add details in photoshop too.Especially where textures are involved. For instance the pillars will be colour burnt inside photoshop to add a bit of realism. And i'll also add glare effects with photoshop.

Here's the clay of the character. I haven't modeled his face, since you won't see it anyway, and i wanted to give him a miniature feel...like a ragdoll maybe...

I've noticed some errors at the first post processed image. I fixed them, and i think the overall mood is better now, waiting for suggestions :)

Hehe really nice to see the progress

Great image, nice texture work.
As you now I'm not very fond of the glary glowy in the post-processed image. And also you could add more details in the background and de-blur it :)
Take your time.

Noroc si succes. Si nu te grabi mai poti bibili mult la ea, mai sunt mai mult de 2 luni, ai tot timpul din lume.

Your image has a wonderful dream-like quality to it.

One thing I am not keen on though is that the characters hat is right on the top edge of the picture. It might be better if you added some space to the top.

intersesting picture. Good emotion. Maybe you can gain a little on the up part of your picture. And also have a less straight pose of your character.
keep up the good work

Hello, nice rendering .. i like the feel of the image .. it has a clay animation feeling ( my favourite) but in my opinion your character looks liket its at the end of the road... not at the beggening .. i would ad some road in the background to see where is he heading.

Mult succes! is multi romani in concurs :)

great render. the mushrooms and flowers add a nice touch to the terrain.

i'm not too fond of the depth of field effect. it seems to be focusing on the pillars in the middle of your scene, and not on your character.

good work so far!

Wow, looks like you're close to finishing! Great image, I especially like the pillars. I think you should be able to see some sort of winding road going into the mountains, right now you can't as the dof is very heavy. Maybe you could also make the character stand out a bit more.

Keep up the great work.:)

A little bit more action in the character's pose would be nice, but thats the only thing I'm really seeing at the moment. The look is good, very soft and dreamy, and the detail of grass and mushrooms leaves a lot to play with in the foreground.

Very nice, sweet picture. It's real pleasure to see something smooth like Your work. But I have one question - Don't you think camera target is too low? Your character is almost out of canvas and broken wall become main element of picture. Good luck and keep working.

Thank you all for the replies. I've fixed the "character out of the canvas" issue and the road extension one. It looks much better and thank you for the suggestions :) . Unfortunetly, i've wanted to render a high res one this time, so it'll take a bit untill it's finished :) i just may send you a lower res to see however.

Here's the test render i've been promising, there's a little problem with the DoF however, it blurs the road extension too much i suppose, i've put some nice ruins along the path at the end and they can't be seen because they are blurred, but i will fix that. And i've changed the character's position and pose, i think he's not that straight anymore.Hope you like it!

Here's a higher res one, and now those ruins i've been telling about can be seen. Hope you like it :D

This is an impressive image , the composition and model are both very interesting . Good luck .

Thanks for the apreciation tuck, best of luck to you too!

Now the next thing i'm going to do is remodel the ruins, i don't quite like them as they are now, and i think i might just model some arrows, shields, swords and put some of them in the scene, to suggest the fact that there were some kind of outposts here, and that humans faught the mountain creatures here.

It may be just me but it feels like the character is too high up in the composition. You might want to try lowering him by changing the camera angle. Just a suggestion. Love the colors. Nice work :)

EDIT: I just realized that part of the problem I stated above is the horizon line. If you lowered it so that it would be on the 2/3rds portion of the image, it wouldn't seem as hard.

I like the look of it, but I don't think it has captured the feel of the project yet.

the world around him/her doesn't seem big enough. I think it should be more intimidating. this would give great weight to this things journey.

have you tried shrinking the character a bit more?
make the ruins a bigger part of the image. show how much bigger they in comparison to the character.

Just throwing out ideas.
I love the image, but I think it could be more. make the viewer feel his lonliness. his all alone here walking through ruins where there once was a civilzation!

Great scene. However, i think you should put more emphasis on either the environment or the character. Just try things with the camera angle and the position of the character until you get the right feel.

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. When i'll have some free time, i'm going to start working on the feeling of the scene, try to do what you guys suggested. Indeed it doesn't seem grand yet. But i will try to make it look grand ;) . Thank you again for the replies!
