is there a way to specify which axis points down a bone when i draw it? The default is X, but for gimble purposes, i'd like to change that. I know i can change the evaluation order of the rotation axes, but when i do this, for instance, making it YXZ or ZXY, i loose the ability to free rotate all axes at once from the manipulator gnomon in a predicatable fashion. So, i'd rather keep the default rotation evaluation order and change which axis points down the bone. thanks in advance.

I'm not exactly sure what you're after. But this is something you could try. Click on the add mode in your main transform panel.

Now select the bone and open up the kinematics page. You should see pivots tab. Slide those sucker around and watch your pivot orientation change. Add mode is the "real" rotation visual. You won't see anything change if you're in local or global.

Hope that was what you're looking for.

peace,

Lu

you can do it in Cain Bone PPG under Bone Axis Offset (there are sliders named X, Y, Z), or simply click on one of the buttons (named X/Y/Z Axis) next to the sliders to set the axis paralell to bone length

you can display centers in your viewport to see the effect, or activate translate tool in local mode
