View Full Version : Maxon must be doing something right...
ChrisCousins 03-15-2006, 10:01 PM Well, something's looking up for Maxon, just checked a bunch of job openings at Mograph.net, and it certainly seems that C4D skills are a premium - virtually every job opening offered (and that's around 20 in the last fortnight) seem to specify C4D as atleast an advantageous and in some cases as absolutely essential. Here's the links:
http://mograph.net/board/index.php?showforum=21
If I remember rightly these sorts of gigs were almost exclusively LW or Maya not so long ago; C4D may well be lacking in the character animation stakes but as far as broadcast work goes I'd say they're rockin' :applause:
If only I lived in Miami...
Cheers - C

Hey that is good news!
Looks like I'd better brush up on my AE skills, too. What a deadly combo, eh.

Good things come to those who wait. Cinema will be to 3D as Photoshop is to 2D, an industry standard in no time at all.
Yup cinema is gaining popularity in all areas except FX work, i've seen. Also i see more jobs in Character Animation emerging. Awesome stuff.
Some thing i find frustrating though, is i can't seem to find anything that teaches motion graphics on the internet.
There is tons of stuff for CA techniques but Mo Graf seems to be something that you can either know how to do or don't know.
Anyone know of any tutorials on how to learn mo graf work?

good news.
Cinema is really good, and i have been pushing it hard at work. Maxon cannot rest now though. We need A LOT more tools/plug-ins that have been going south lately.
I really think R10 is going to set things right.

I just finished doing openers, graphics and general presentation work for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games , broadcast by Channel Nine in Australia. It has a mix of live action and cg and I used Cinema 4d exclusively, After Effects 6.5 and 7, Final Cut with a bit of Shake, a bit of Motion, and tracked shots with Syntheyes. When the games finish I'll get permission to show you guys some stuff. I am really happy with it, and more importantly, the clients are loving it.

Thats excellent news! any new jobs for c4d users has to be great news. Long live cinema 4d.
I have noticed that siggraph is earlier this year (end of july compared to sept last year). I was wondering if Maxon will release an update in may to coincide with siggraph or whether we will have to patiently wait longer for R10, which I perseonally want to call the 'The Legend killer', mainly as I hope it will start shaking up the indy a little bit.
rsquires - that sounds pretty cool. looking forward to seeing it.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here - Cinema 4D still has a long way to go before it gets to that stage... ;)

I agree, only app ever to get close to Photoshop's status int he 3D market is maya, and their grasp will never get stronger then what it was 18-24 months ago. There are too many solutions, specialized apps etc that no one app can easily dominate.
Its great to see cinema getting a lot of the niche markets now, IT may not ever be used for gollum, but growing a majority of Matte Painters, and Motion Graphics Artists, are two areas that are always in high demand, Have huge varying levels of quality for various levels of experienced users, and have no specialized apps for their field. Nice to see them all starting to lean on cinema to fill their needs

true.
I just watched the CG Channel podcast - featuring an interview with Matte Painting MASTER Dylan Cole...
I'll give you 3 guesses what 3D app he uses... ;)

Nice, that's really good to hear. C4D is a very powerful application, and it is high time the industry start to take notice.
I just hope R10 gives us a revamped Dynamics solution.. seems they have set the groundwork for such with Clothilde and Hair... only tine will tell.
Counting the days to SIGGRAPH ;)

I shouldn't speculate on the content of version 10 which will most likely debut at Siggraph, but if the past is anything to go on, a new render engine and new ca tools will probably be the highlight of their demonstration.
Even with those updates my bold statement may not necessarily be 100% true, but I'd like to believe it will be in the near future.

Yeah--Cinema 4d certainly is spreading like wildfire.
A few years ago there were no opportunities here in the Philly area for c4d users. Now there are several studios using it here. Quite happy to see this happenning.
what does 4D actually mean?

I always thought if the 3rd dimension is space--the 4th dimension is time--which realtes to animation I guess. Ask Stephen Hawkings---or Srek.
thanks Joel,
it was me just posting one of my pointless rhetorical questions. But maybe 'cinema' just sounds better..
the 4th dimension may well be time. Time to sort out the timeline!

Well--lets be glad they did away with all those other letters--XL? --or whatever that was.
Speaking of wide spread use of C4D, I am now participating in a online class called
pixelcorps (www.pixelcorps.com) which contains considerable training material on
C4D.

3D would just be a still.
Einstein decreed that the 4th dimension was time.
Einstein wrote the beginning laws, theories about time.
n 4D in Cinema 4D means has animation.
but Cinema does 2 so there telling us the same thing twice.
I think what make C4D so popular is
it's stability, So u get the feeling that the coders can code.
user friendly, So you don't get the feeling that it's a old app.
it adapts real fast to new tech like zBrush,64 bit,new OS n stuff.
So the coders pay attention to what's going on.
new Mods in the last little bit we got cloth n hair what u need for charter animation.
So the coder get u the tools u need.
So when u deal with C4D u feel like your dealing with professionals.

4D is short for "For Thee" - CINEMA For You, so to speak :wise:
but it only really works for us foreigners who haven't mastered the "tongue between your teeTH" sound just yet... :D

Just saw this...
If you download the latest episode of the Mac Break video podcast (featuring Windows running on a mac-mini) you'll see a big Maxon logo at the end of the show. All motion graphics for the Mac Break video Podcast were created using C4D. Pretty good exposure considering that this particular episode is talked about right now on Digg.com
