The upper teeth is the key to Van Halens face. Great painting, you play? Eddie was the man huh, i'd love to hear what he's been recording over the years, i hear he's got mountains of stuff recorded.

I like the emotion you have managed to capture here. The only minor criticism I would add is that 'Eddies' face has a touch of Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap. But then again, perhaps this is not such a bad thing!

Ive always loved your charicatures (especially that xena one) but this is your best ever! Aside from the flawless, almost photoreal rendering, i really love the proportions. Those big, fleshy hands work great with the guitar and his hair is amazing.

I really hope this gets frontpage and a choice award - its about time you got one!

Great work! I love the highlights on the right side. The only thing I might have added to this Guitar God, is the trademark cigarette stuck on the end of the tuning knob. lol
you should send this to him. I bet he'd get a real kick out of it. You should develop your own tutorial on hair using painter.

Well, here’s some detailed input on the picture :


- Firstly, Linda´s tutorial is superb and really helps when trying to develop a similar effect in Painter.


- Painter is an amazing piece of software, but I have to work hard to learn it inside out. There
and many possibilities with a package such as this.

- I´m a Brazilian fanatic of Van Halen, which began when I first saw Eddie playing guitar on the Jump video! I think I was a nerd before that ha ha J


In that video he portrays so much energy and passion, coupled with the love for what he does for a living. In fact when we love what we do it is not a job but pleasure.
After that I began to buy many things about the band which brought me so many idea’s for the many Eddie Caricatures that I have created. I have been lucky to have some of them even posted on the bands official website.


- Hey Roger, I’m sure Nigel would be proud of that hair! How much hairspray would be needed ?

- The thumbnail was chosen because the striped guitar is an universal image of Eddie.

- For me, Sebastian Kruger is the Eddie Van Halen of caricatures.


- Yes, the two hand tapping technique is his trademark, but I chose to focus on another - the whammy bar tremolo!

- Cristinelo, When Eddie is playing he has the eyes of a young boy saying “Hey Mom, look at me"! For me he will never get old! Thank you for your comments.


- Yes, I´d love to frame this artwork and give to him personally. I had a dream last night and he was playing to me and I was finishing this artwork to him, IF only !!!


- I know that the cigarette in the guitar headstock is another trademark, but after his cancer of the tongue, I celebrated his curing with no cigarette burns on the guitar.


- No, I´m not a guitar player but I love the instrument a lot. In fact I love to draw any guitarist (they look like knights or super heroes to me)

This is my artwork submission for the EXPOSE 4. It was made to honor my idol, Mr. Edward Van Halen, an amazing guitarist who has influenced many musicians over the years.
The interesting thing about it is that I used the Photoshop Hair Tutorial from the Linda Bergkvist page and had to translate the instructions to try and discover how I could achieve similar results using Painter tools. Well, here it is. Comments are always welcome. Thanks!

it's just eddie holds the pick with his middle finger and only his index pointing or holding the tip of the pick when he plays really fast...

Eddie built the guitar with stripes(the frankenstrat) with parts from many different guitars. I believe the first one(at least) had a Fender headstock. The line of guitars was named Wolfgang after his son, who is coincidentally named Wolfgang.

An exceptional caricature could have been that much better had the main object, his face, not been turned away in awe as if distracted by something off to our right. This also distracts the audience's eye away from the rest of the exceptional detail. I have the feeling that you lacked an alternative picture or the confidence to try to take the picture you had and change the angle of his face and nuance of his expression so as to indicate something more like what you see in most artist's faces, an expression of his own self-satisfaction at HIS virtuoso performance.
