Most of my work start out as scribbles that only I can understand and this is no exception (but feel free to throw stones all the same!). I wanted to depict a scene a little more complex in concept than someone simply walking out into a grand vista (not that there is anything wrong with that as I have already seen many entries of this sort that will probably be far more successful than my own). Instead, the characters themselves and their relationship(s) with each other will define the nature of their "journey," with the background there more for symbology and support than something to be literally ventured into (although I certainly hope to paint it as something that might encourage a journey). Last note for now: the uninspiring title is just a placeholder!

In addition to rough blocking of colors and shapes, I experimented with expanding the scene to hint at more of a story... but it seems like overkill and compositionally it is stagnant. I will probably go back to the original framing and focus on the two main figures.
