as the tiltle says it..
how do you make the topology on the "top of the head"... i ALWAYS get bad topology on top of the head... usualy the face and neck and everything is great.. but when i get to the "top of the head" topology i get some bad results.. i get tris and i cannot get rid of them

i just canīt get the topology match the one on the face for instance.. the polygons donīt fit well together on the top, hence the bad topology..

here are some examples (note: these were the only head models on this computer.. and they all got bad "top of the head" topology):

German Helmet:

Norma Head:

Head of a seal:

Please show/tell me how to "improve" or "perfectionise" the topology on the head/helmet
(its the helmet im working on now, and i bumped once again in to that damn topology problem... so please help me)

Honestly I see nothing wrong with it because it's still quads. Unless you're getting some funky deformations when you apply smoothness to it, I'd keep it as is.

yeah i just noticed that they are QUADS.. and not tris as i thought before.. and i now remember that the heads worked ok after much time spent on fixing the tri problem.. but! the helmet has a tri formed quad wich kinda acts like a tri, it gives me this tri bump that you usualy see.. so could any one tell me a good way of placing this quad.. or/and tell me wich way is the best to construct the topology on the head

Thanks for your reply

I don't know if this is the best way, but i start with a sphere which gives nice loops around the neck and ears :)

i placed a little tut of it in my challenge thread
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=322905
again im still a beginner so check out some wires at the topology research threads to see how the pro's do it ;)

Don't worry too much about the top of the head, most of the time it is covered with hair anyway :)

Even if the head is bald, you can get away with a lot of bumpiness, next time you see somebody with a completely shaved head take a good look, it's so much more bumpy and weirdly shaped than you expect. So in my opinion some poles or tri's will only add more realism to that area. (one problem that might pop up is that you have trouble ZBrushing these areas when you use a lot of tri's or poles)

yeah.. i think i can live with it.. it isnīt THAT big of a deal
ill try making the head more high poly so i wonīt be doing puzzles with the quad/triīs that i make...

Thanks
