Wow! Amazing drawing. Wouldn't the vest be flapping in the wind? What am I saying? If the bird can get that big then the vest can stay close to the body.:) Great first sketch!

Thank you, you're right, but I didn't pay too much attention to such details, I just wanted to define the composition and the main plot of the image. Sure it will be flapping a little on the final image :) Thank you for your comments guyz :)

anway, i don`t think they are THAT similar... and i really like yours; i`m curious, let`s see how we will finish this Journey, good luck!

Wow that's impressive man! I love the comp and angle etc. All seems good to express the Journey here.

Anyway I think colors must be put carefully, I'll check later to see news ;)
See ya!

I think that the images a quite diffirent in composition, and for sure they will be different after the final colouring so i don't think thet thay are THAT similar either, BEst wishes on your journey :)

Very good sketch!
Wow, Nils Holgersson, I remember when I read it, I think I was 13 or 14, lying in the sun of the short swedish summer in our backyard... lot of memories come back now...
Is that a specific city from the book? Have you been to Sweden?

If the bird can get that big
Hehe, the kid is enchanted by a gnome to become really small, as punishment for being lazy in school and treating the gnome badly, and must then make his way back home on the back of migrating geese, meanwhile learning everything there is to learn about Swedish history and geography in the process (it's a very loong book). :D

Yeah, I read the story about this boy riding a bird too some years ago... I remember how destoryed the book was and it had no cover at all, but I took it from the library shelf exactly cause I was soo curious what is hidden in there :) Well how does his story end? :S I don't remember the end any more.

However a realy nice sketch just as the book is. Signed in  :)

I've never been to Sweden so It's not a specific town... just my imagination, but I was inspired with the photos of Stockholm.

03-29-2006, 05:21 PM
good start! the colour scheme already convey that sense of wonder and "cosyness".
the little thing that bugs me so far is the geese right wing : it looks as if it's in a reverse position and we're seeing the front side of it. might just be me though :]
good luck!

Nils Holgersson! I read it too, long ago. Very nice pic, I think you got a Swedish feel to it, the light and the low, gentle landscape.

This is gonna be great!
I love your rendering technique and the colors are perfect.

The way the fields of your newest part are cut off from the water is a little bit too sharp and straight for my taste.

Couldn't agree with Selina42 more... reminds me of a lot of the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christen Anderson tales I read from time to time, magical! I don't envy you those buildings, I've painting city scapes like that before, it's no mean feat, but you've already nailed the colours and lighting and the lanscaping int he background reminds me very much of where i live in the north of the UK.

Lovely entry, nothing to crit this far, just looking forward to updates

I love the light and color. Do you intent to maintain the painterly brushstroke, or will you bee smoothing and blending much beyond this stage?

i read it a long time ago and watch the cartoons also when i was a kid :scream:and your picture looks great; the colors you choose and the illustration you made, all nice feeling come back about thoose years, but i must ask this (becouse nobody did) : dont you think it going to be a problem using an existing story? but even if it is you must finish this one too thats some kind of artwork i like to see on my wall.looking at it really makes you feel comfortable .

I do not think that it is a problem to use the existing story, the book left a lot of space for the imgination, I'm not painting over an existing artwork...

that remember me I'm more a technician than an artist. Guy, you got the both sides of a great painter. Personaly I'm not fond of the wild big geese idea but the overall idea and picture of landscape are making me think of a journey, just as the boat on the long river.

Will look after your work!
