View Full Version : Cutting/slicing a mesh with a spline - how ?

It's been a long time since I last had to use this silly method, but how on earth do I cut a cube for example with a spline ?

Not sure if that's clear enough :) Let's say I draw a spline that lines up with a box, or whatever shape....and I want to use the spline to cut that shape out of the object...how do I do that ?

I remember from a long time ago that with Rhino you'd project the spline on the mesh/object as a sort of cut-line and then use it to slice the damn object.

It seems so incredibly simple, but I just can't find it anywhere, lol =)

Thanks guys!

ShapeMerge compound object.

cool, thanks, but that only cuts out one side of the mesh....with a flat result.

What I was looking for is like having it cut all the way through an object. Sorry for being so vague :) Thanks again!

project curve and trim is a NURBS operation

shape merge is the same - it projects a shape onto a poly object

so either, make a nurbs model

OR

copy and flip your shape to the other side of the object and do another shape merge for that side
