Hi everyone! i was wondering if anyone has some suggestions or tips for rigging arms.

I'm currently a student in Sheridan's computer animation program so ive only been using maya since September, but have been using other packages for years.

Anyways i'm trying to rig an arm that has both IK and FK functionality. My most recent attempt was with a triple arm set-up, 1 that has IK. 1 that is FK, and a third that is driven actually binded to the mesh that has an attribute that contols which arm (ik or fk) is driving it.

I know that 90% of the time i'll probably be using FK for animating the arms, but it would be nice to have IK in the rig if i need to pick up or stick the hands to something.

I know there is and IK/FK switcher in maya i have not investigated yet that makes me think i could acheive what i want with just 2 arms.

Anyways im very interested in riggingand would like to see peoples appraoches to rigging arms. Thanks in advance!

Jason Shleifer came up with a way to use the IK/FK switch in Maya from just one set of bones. (so he claims ;) )

I've tried using the IK/FK switch and I didn't like it 'cause you need special keys...

So I still use the good old 3 arms set-up.. works great, and it doesn't slow down your machine too much..
