this is just a quick hand drawn sketch to test my idea....

which is to go down to as small a creature as possible. microscopic plankton...

and their world is one drop of water.

but our hero is being shot to another body of water, to find out if there is life out there...

I am trying to test the images composition, perspective by creating a basic model 3d model, and adjusting sizes, positions and camera angles / lens sizes...

as I work on the compostition using the basic models, I want to see what the extremely short depth of field (to simulate macro-photography) does to the fore and background...
this might inform changes to the layout...
at the moment it is bothering me, because 90% of the images will be out of focus if I only aim at making the main character crisp and clear... I might have to adjust it so that the character, and the main drop are in clear focus... this should be OK, since there will be a lot of leaves and other detail in the far distance to still keep the macro-photography feel...

maybe this works better...
now the foreground is fully in focus, and the background is out of focus, to look like macro photography...

also the rest of the leafy twig enhances the sense of scale...

now we're getting somewhere...

I preferred the more horisontal format.

And I had the inspiration that our hero is jumping to the water drops inside a cobweb...

and then he'll explore the world drop by drop...

and eventually end up at the river that will be in the background...

Next step, I should work on the web, and have a drop big in the foreground (on the same plane as the character to make it in focus) to re-inforce the idea.

Then I must begin to look at what's inside the big drop, then the background in 2 to 4 levels...

then the real modeling can start from scratch, using this one as a base

Ya your water drop looks better now. oh ya .. Hi!

Now for the C & C (I wish I had more! so I give what I can!)
Your leaf- you could hand texture some vains and you main leaf seams a little thick.
Your Cat-a-launch seems a little small, it almost hurts my eyes to focus on it, but that may not be the focus! I would like to see more with your main character!
It may be a challenge to have the exiting of the water drop for drops are very blobby.

I would love to see more, keep us updated!

hiya
rasamaya has some good crits, just to add on the water droplet - it can use some reflections and a higher spec value
