Hey guys. I'm just starting out in computer art... this is my first real piece, so the style and technique's all over the place, as I sludged my way through photoshop. There's something that really disturbs me about it, but I can't pinpoint what. Suggestions appreciated :)

Here's a basic layout/idea of another piece:

I don't really like the current background color, but it's going to be redone... after I learn how to actually paint a convincing eye ^_^

Changed the eye and background colors a bit. Mm, blood

A slight variation on the deertree color:

Any tips on improvement?

really cool idea. i think it needs more details to show what's really going on. As it is, to me it appears to be a crystalized tree growing out of a stream of myst. that turns into a mystfall.

I'm sure some of that isn't true.

If its growing there, where is it's gleam of sunlight? Where are other similar entities to make it seem as a natural occurance? Is it walking around like that? Maybe add a small bit of vegetation somewhere? Really work on getting the surfaces of your environment looking more realistic, study the surface of rocks and caves.

I look forward to seeing the final piece.

LOL, that's about it, actually. >_<
I'm not too sure how to make a ray of light without it looking too tacky, especially in reflecting off the deertree. I'll try to work in more realistic rock textures and some vegetation/similar entities though. Thanks for the suggestions :)
