anyone can suggest me about mouse for maya, I shopped in the computer market for many days and I couldn't find the 3 mouse buttons on the shelf, most of mice had 2 mouse button and scroll wheel on the middle part. Can you share some informations that what is the best suitable mouse for maya 3d software and what's brand? and now what kind of mouse that you used? can you share about strength and weakness of your mouse? Thanks

Scroll wheels function the same as the middle button.

Yes, but the wheel is't that comfortable to use imo. HP has three mouse buttons (even optical :) )

Labtech has one ( ball ) and most of all I would actually reccomend a wacom!! The hand needs change in position so I have mouse and wacom to work with and it helps.

yes, I agree with Mikademius, this is the reason why I wrote this thread , it's not comfortable when you press on the wheel , especially when you use manipulator tools , this problem will effect on the speed of your work.

I'd go for the optical threebutton from HP. It's not as comfortable as the one they have with the ball, but it is good enough. However, I'd like to point out that the wacom is one of the best electronical investments I have ever made...

I went to the wacom site and saw the catalog, there was a mouse with three buttons that I want, it looked nice, I hope that it works well for me ...the price is quite expensive but it's not a problem for me so much, thanks alot for your recommend.

I see "3 button mice" in pretty much all stores that sell computer accessories....I've even seen them in Wally World and K-mart, and their selection of accessories is somewhat limited. I'd check out Circuit City, they have a whole entire aisle devoted to "mice."

one thing you can try that i used to do with my ms intellimouse explorer optical is, map your middle-mouse click to one of your side buttons instead. in the mouse driver settings you can set it up so your configuration is application specific so it will only work that way with maya. this is a great setup especially if you have an old version of maya and you have to you use the LMB+MMB for certain operations, which always felt awkward to me.

To me the wacom mouse is very unresponsive, laggy and unconfortable...Unlike it's pen.

I hate using the scroll wheel as a third mouse button. It sucks at it, and is horrible for Maya. I'm pissed at how there are no good 3 button mice on the market. I found a good one at Brookstone years ago, problem is that it's ball not optical.

I'd go with one of the logitech gaming mice. I have an MX 1000 and the scroll wheel is low and long. It makes it very easy for middle mouse clicking (not quite as good as a 3 button) and you get the benefit of the scroll wheel for surfing cgtalk. It just depends which scroll mouse you use. I have an intelamouse from M$ and I couldn't imagine using it for 3d, but the logitech is something that I love using.

I've always had the same problem. Search for ergonomic mice. They seem to come in "true" three button configurations.

Also, try searching for Sun Microsystem mice and SGI mice. They are mechanical (as opposed to crappy infrared) and are available in USB. I can't remember the site where I got mine. Try Ebay.
