The Journey Begins Challenge (2D) Entry: Matthew Masterson

Here is my concept for this challenge, colonization of Mars. I'm depicting a woman looking over her shoulder while out exploring the planet, while the background is showing Mars. This is my rough line design of the concept. I first wanted to see organic form before I put her into some kind of space suit. I also want a clear idea of her form so I can start thinking about the colors I'm going to use.

Coming out of the sketch phase and working in lines and grey value tones. On some of the areas of the piece I’m building up a little more such as the background. Looking for that epic type look and a little more story for the piece.

Like the little space craft and the character is really strong, but perhaps the storytelling side might be a little stronger as I had to read what the journey element was to understand it - but is a nice concept and good composition!
