I've always loved the idea of a giant tree. When I was younger, my dad gave me one of those miniature trees made of entwined silver and told me that I should imagine my adventures as I travelled up that tree (imagining it to be many kilometres high), a journey that takes months through the caverns and passageways of the trunk, and is full of encounters with all sorts of strange beings living therein. Plus I remember playing some ancient side-scroller hack n’ slash game that takes place in a giant tree (anyone remember the name? I think it might have been on the snes). Anyway, heres my first sketch.

Hi Puck,

the floating city reminds me of the book of Philip J. Farmer "World OF of animal". Great sketch and atmosphere. I am curiously like it continue to go.
Much luck and have fun.

Ciao,
Ravena

Hey thanks Cyberone and Ravena, it's lovely to get some feedback already...although, I just re-read the guidelines --- "The final works must demonstrate a depth of story and view that shows the character(s) up close and the journey beyond."

So I'm going to rework the characters into more of a central role... hopefully put a bit of story in there apart from just some arbitrary fantasy cliches. :)

Gr8 color combination ! But get to the subject ! Try painting the essential first, then the background ! Good luck !

I'm trying to bring some story to the characters and make them a bigger part of the image. I have to get good reference for the devil baby and witch and redraw them, preferably with a stronger perspective.

Thanks for the positive comments people :)

KiD; good point, I'm still kind of rambling around looking for an idea and composition, but time is fleeting.

hihi... i love that baby :). really nice idea here. the background mood and composition is looking great :)

i only have some concerns about the baby and the with, but as you stated you are looking for proper reference. i think the axis tilt of the baby should be in the other direction to fit the composition better and lead the eye to the background. i mean it like just flip the baby horizantly. its only a suggestion though :)

keep it up :)
