OK we are going to do AN EXPERIMENT starting today.

You have 30, (count them 30!) minutes to do your sketch. The idea is that at the end of those 30 minutes you have to post your sketch in whatever form it is.
So bring out your sketcbook, and your watch, ill be watching you!

The idea of this exercise is to build up speed m so you may post as many DIFFERENT sketches as you want.

"Ferry to the Dark Lands"

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

-Roberto

Just a little hint to those of you who might get confused or mentally "stressed" when taking time the classical way (constantly looking at the clock/timer); Set your alarm on.
It might seem a little logical, but... I had to get that suggested... so yeah, just in case ^^

Hey all,

I **love** this idea. I think we should continue to spice things up by giving time limits periodically.

Anyway, here's mine (took exactly 30 minutes- from concept to final image):

My damn wacom kept loosing its connection with the pen so I went past the deadline by about 5-10 minutes..

Hi there, didn't do a daily sketch in quite some time.

Photoshop Elements
Had to realize that 30 minutes can be very short.:)

This was great! What a wonderful idea! Wow you guys have made some really nice 30 minute sketches.... I went the simple route as I was concerned I wouldn't finish anything.

the topic made me think of the Mists of Avalon

Painter + a hair under 30min.

That was fun! I enjoyed having a set time, although I didn't enjoy the outcome so much :D
But its a good exercise in forcing yourself to build the image up faster - good fun!

Hello there thought I'd try out this time limited daily sketch

This speed thing had the opposite outcome than I thought. Usually I take WAY too much time on everything, and going fast was sort of freeing and more natural. Anyways, because this goes so fast, I'll probably do another one soon.

The clouds probably took the longest. I have the hardest time making convincing clouds.

ProCreate Painter Classic + Wacom + 31 min. (I checked the time a minute late)

Cool stuff everyone.
Figured I'd do another. Besides I kind of cheated on the first one.
Artrage/mouse 25 min

Drone2222 - Good clouds, amazing waves.

freshvirus - Really cool look, love the reflections and burning crap in the water!

30 minutes really goes fast. I like the time limit though, it means I don't feel pressured to do a good/finished sketch :)

I almost didn't get the ferry in, but managed in the 28th minute. Really nice work everyone.

edit : almost forgot - GIMP / Tablet / 31min and 20sec

Well, first actual digi painting with my wacom.

Corel Painter 2 / Wacom / 20 minutes.

Not exactly a ferry, but it fits into the whole idea.

Here's the same ferry as before, this time nearing the dark lands. I must say, I don't like this one as much as the first one.

ProCreate Painter Classic, Wacom, 33 min. (I realized I didn't have a ferry at 27 minutes in).

Man, I feel stupid. I saw only the topic and rushed to PS, thus missing the 30 min timeframe. This one went ~40 mins. PS + Wacom A6.

I reworked it, (hopes it's better now)

Exactly 30 minutes, testing out my newly created textured brushes for artweaver. Never been so happy about a result in my attempts at DSG sketches.

Awesome idea again, Roberto!

Arnocob - beautiful mark making with a mouse!. Seriously get a drawing tablet... I've been kicking myself for the last 3 months, because I didn't get one when they were invented!

Also - many thanks for replying to my thread and your advice on hosting images... A bientot. Beno
