Hey all, first time poster here. =)
Here is a model I'm working on in my spare time. Kind of a remake of a character idea I was working with in the past that didn't turn out to well. Its supposed to be a rhino that walks...on two legs! Although I have only gotten a fair amount done on the head. Still lots of touch-ups to do in places around the eyeball, nose, horn, and also the ears(mainly to actually make them). I'm using 3ds max for modeling. Comments and feedback are most welcome.
Here are the images, smooth and wire:
Thank you for your time!

Sorry about the absence! Been rather busy at work. Here's an update. I went ahead and got started on the upper body, and will tweak the anatomy and touch it up soon. Lots of holes here and there need to be filled as well. Any words of wisdom will be appreciated! =)
A interest character.
I never before saw a RhinoMan.
Good Job so far.

Nice! Reminds me of the Turtles!
One thing I would consider is the size of the mouth, the corners seem to be stretched back a little too much.

Thanks for the replies!
babliovski: Yeah I was thinking theres something wrong with the whole mouth area, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Originally I was gonna make him an angry rhino, but changed his expression to be more calm; without changing the mouth much. I'll try making the mouth smaller once I get home from work. =)

hey the rhino man is looking great!
The muscle looks tight, and I can feel the animal goes RARHHHHHH!
Two small crits though,
1. the mesh near the mouth area looks a little dense. are you going to elaborate the mouth a bit afterwards?
2. near the beginning of the spine it the muscle looks a little funny. but i'm sure you'll clean that up.
just my 2 cents.
other than that, its looking awesome!

Once again, apologies for the slowness in my getting work up here. Hectic bunch of days just went by! Anyhoo, heres a small update to the rhino. And about the mouth, I think I've decided to give him an expression a little further down the road. So as a result of this, I don't think I'll make any major changes now; considering changes are still coming.
firewing666: I moved around polygons in the spine area a bit, and will tweak a bit more. Also about the mouth, like I mentioned, it will stay as is for now.
metamesh: Wow!! Your rhino man is awesome!! Haha, and here I was thinking I was gonna make something semi-original. But hey, I guess even strange ideas like this one have been done before. I'd like to toss this rhino into zbrush once I'm finished in max, and see what I can come up with. Maybe you can toss a few pointers my way when it comes to that!
Thanks for viewing!
Nice work ! I'm working to a character very similar to this...maybe I will post it.
Keep it up ! :)

Here's a small update on mr. rhino:
Let's hear some feedback!

hey what up!
good to see the update.
the body is starting to take good shape, keep up the good work!
one small crit: I personally don't think the muscles stick out enough, I'm under the impression that they've got more depth to it, like this....
just my 2 cents! keep the updates coming!

I like him so far, great work since the last version. I agree with above regarding the muscles looking flat especially around his stomach area. Also, his eyelids need refining (has none). Check it:
His pecs seem a little small compared to his abs. Besides that crap, he looks amazing.
Have you thought about giving him armor? I've found a sweet reference for you.
(check his pecs!)

Hey guys, thanks for the tips!
Richard: Roger! I'll try making the abs a bit more pronounced to give them more depth.
Matt: Hey Matty! Thanks for the tips man. I'll make the abs a lot more round to give them the depth. The pecs are a tad on the small side, I was thinking that myself. Although I kinda like how that flows with the entire upper body, its not anatomically correct. Lots of anatomy corrections to still be made. I'm working on the back side right now and will post an update with all the changes later in the day. Oh yeah as for the eyelids, haha, I havn't made them yet. There's pretty much a hole sitting there and a nice round sphere. I will get around to that, as well as the unfinished ear/mouth/horn sooner than later. This time around, rhino man is more lanky and tall as opposed to puffy and short. :D
And yeah, haha, I will be giving him armor. I have an interesting idea for it too, we'll see how it plays it out.

Pulled out the abs, and made the pecs a tad bit bigger. I've redone the back a few times now, and still am not happy with it. Especially the mid/lower back muscles. Still lots of fixing up to do there!
04-02-2006, 06:38 AM
Wow very nice. Its amazing how youv'e managed to keep it in porpotion.
04-03-2006, 08:46 AM
The pecs need to go further down towards the abs. I think that's where the "problem " is.

The wire is clean and I like your work !!!
Keep going

I'm back with a mini update on the back, torso, and some of the legs.
Mikademius: I pulled down the pecs moreso, but looking back at it now it doesn't look a whole lot different, heh. I'll tweak it a bit more, but not so much so that the muscle between the pecs/abs disappear.
Also, no...I won't model him a crotch, or a butt crack. It will never show.
Without further patience required...here are the shots!
Hi MuhammadAzam , nice to see the updates... keep posting
For me the pecs looks better now. Do you think you will use also Zbrush?
04-12-2006, 06:59 PM
Heya Buuu, thanks for the reply! Yes, I will make an attempt to Zbrush him, although I'm not to good at it yet, so we'll see how it turns out.
