I am pretty determined to purchase a Photoshop of the latest version when the time is right. I need people's opinion on when I should get it, given the following circumstances:
1. My career as a student will end in just two months, which means after that, I will not qualify for student discount (I found Photoshop CS2 for $299, which is still expensive, but fair deal compared to buying as a non-student,,, or so I thought, until some people claim that their campus book store sell it for $99. Is that realistic? Do you think $299 as a student is a rip-off?) I want to hear from other students who can confirm the validity of claims that there are campus that sell PS for much cheaper.
2. I have two Mac machines, one of which is a 12" PowerBook G4, and the other 20" Intel iMac. I recently got the iMac with my hard-earned money, so I believe it would only make sense that I avoid spending that extra money on Photoshop that is not in Universal Binaries, but rather wait until CS3 comes out a year later so my Intel iMac can be fully utilized. However, using Photoshop is not, and will not be, what I depend on to pay the bills, so I could always use my PowerBook to run CS2...
Basically, here's an amateur who is willing to spend some money and time on learning/using Photoshop to do neat things that I hear all my artist friends are doing. I would love to enjoy the power, speed, and the bigger display of my Intel iMac if I'm going to invest in an expensive software, but at the same time, my life does not depend on working with Photoshop, so I could settle with using on the inferior PowerBook.
Purchase Timing.... CS2 now w/ student discount, but limited to using on PowerBook? Or CS3 a year later, fully taking advantage of faster machine, but for a significantly higher price. I really can't decide. Help!
Thanks for any input.
